Well, I figured since that big turbo post was lost about the turbo kit for the GT, I would start the post up again. Are there any new developements?

That intercooler pipe hangs a little low though. What are the performance gains from this set up adn will it be commercially available?

What are the specs, eg type of turbo etc.

This is what I remember from the last thread...

The intercooler will be higher on the production model
They're not finished tweaking it yet os they dont know the exact performance gains
yes it will be commercially available

Did they get the turbo back from FL yet? Dyno?

Didn't they expect like around 420 hp with the stage 2, but a new tranny is highly recommended?

Did they ever have the dyno and ET on the 1/4 mile? Just wondering.

They ran the 1/4 but the turbo busted like halfway down the track (I think). The time was still respectable though. I don't think they ever got around to dyno-ing it when the old post was up, but maybe since then they have done it.

Hey everyone, I'm back, we decided to go with full production everything on my car so we have been down for a little while. They are currently busy trying to get two Mustangs ready for this weekend but once they get back they are going to make the flanges and piping that they need for the production turbo kit. This means that the turbo on my car will be a toned down, as in not turning the full potential of the stage 2 kit, full production turbo kit.

1/4 mile time was 15.3 with problems with piping and we found out the center section was worse than we thought. It was also about 95 degrees and 90% humidity, untuned at 6 lbs of boost. Out 1/8 mile times were actually in the 13.8-13.9 bracket. We beat two DSM Eclipses and had davidscott at half track and a V8 at half track.

We are projected to be back on the road with the turbo tuned in about two weeks or so, I want to run it with the waste gate open since we have been down, just to get some oil through the turbo and the engine. I will post dyno #'s and 1/4 mile times ASAP, I promise.

I am so glad there is finally somebody really trying to get a turbo kit made for us. I can't wait til they get it all working and then we can see some real numbers!

We will have a production turbo kit for Grand Am's none of this stuff that we are developing it and GA people are still waiting two years later and no word on the kit. I will post here when we have #'s for everyone, I will watch out for our people here, I ain't going to screw noone on the kits.

ohpse, what state is the development in right now? Have you gotten the kinks worked out of the GN Turbo, or are you on a T-3 or 4 yet? Any ETA's on the next benchmark dyno or track run?

I guess you should try and push for the T to be tuned well enough for some solid track runs before the end of the season! You need to hit mid-14's (even at your altitude) to make a statement, I am sure that with the right tuning that will be acheivable. ;)

we should have some solid times here in the next couple of weeks, the season is still active right now. We are anticpating good numbers once we get tuned, esp with the figures when we were untuned.

I am going to the production kit, away from the GN turbo and the IC with the pipes hanging low. That way we can eliminate the pipe fears that everyone has, including myself!!!

ETA on the dyno is Sept 11 with a track run on Sept 12

Just to keep everyone informed, we are going to have everything back together by the end of this week, we took today and Monday off for holiday. I am still optimistic about a track run on the 12th, tuned and everything.

I also saw something sweet this weekend. A 1988 Grand Am GT, 2.0L turbo charged!! Straight out of the factory with a turbo on a GA. I guess I can still claim the only turbo charged SE right? The turbo looked a little small, but still cool none the less. The owner kept up the car and it was in good order, body and engine wise, I didn't ask for a ride in it.

Hey man, good luck to you! I like to see people doing R&D with their cars. FYI ITS Turbo makes a kit for the GM 2.4L engine.

Here is the situation.

There was a wreck with my back up car, probably totalled, I am out of racing for the time being. I am banged up pretty good and I needed the car so we had to stop turbo production and switch back to N/A. I don't know what time I can be back with the turbo unfortunately. I have to go know, the shoulder is fairly well gone.

I go for an MRI tomorrow, probably see an orthopedic doctor after that. One week later and I still can't move my arm that much. Thanks for the thoughts, etc. I promise that I won't disappear with the turbo kits, I'm not going to get a rep like some people have. It won't be until later though now, I need a car to drive and can't afford to have mine down for the R/D. If anyone is interested in purchasing a kit and finishing off the R/D, visit, www.itsturbo.net and drop the guys a line, tell them I sent you.

OK Was just wondering how the Turbo is hooked to the both exhaust manifolds

ohpspe
09-25-2002, 08:12 PM
That I can answer, the cross over pipe that hooks the left and righ bank together is modified slightly, either you can submit yours or buy one from ITS, the exhaust gas from the back is re-routed through the pipe to the turbine on the back of the turbo.

Still waiting on the MRI results, shoulder still can't move without pain or the nice tingling feeling that is a sign of possible nerve damage. Still on pain pills and they don't do crap.

All I am asking for is some g-d patience here. I know that people want this and I want to help all that I can but right now that just isn't possible, if someone is willing to purchase a kit and have their car down for a couple of weeks than we can get the times that everyone wants. So far there have been very few takers on this. They would have to pay for the kit but I think I can work out a deal with the turbo shop where the person wouldn't have to pay for the labor time.

Update on the MRI: I have a fractured shoulder and torn muscle, I am out of racing for the rest of this year and probably next year as well.

To be fair, I think it is more about being lazy than being an a$$hole. People who made comments like above probably just didn't read the entire thread.........

Hey thanks guys, I appreciate seeing that there are people out there that have the patience to wait. Like I said if someone wants to purchase a kit and get the ##'s since I am down, feel free. I can't really do much of anything right now but go to work, go home, take a couple of pain pills, go to sleep. I promise I will have something asap.
