Most of us really like the look of having the amber part of our headlights blocked off with vinyl, but I didn't feel like cutting vinyl and applying it, so I painted it, and you can too!

Here's what you'll need:

Masking tape
Newspaper
razor (optional)
Spray Paint (exterior)
Clear coat (optional)

Take out your headlights, and take off the rubber surround. Clean off the headlight pretty good, and grab the masking tape. Now, you can either tape the outline you want, or just tape straight, and use a razor to cut the shape. Tape the newspaper over the remaining part of the headlight so that no paint gets on it. Paint the amber part with plenty of coats so that you can't see the amber at all. Now, you can add a clear coat if you want, but i dont suppose its required. After the paint dries a little, pull off the tape (CAREFULLY!!!) and re-apply the rubber surround, install into your car, and you're done! I just used some interior/exterior black paint that i found at walmart for like $3, which worked great. Its waterproof, and won't come off. Here's a pic for you to see the results. Sorry, but I had to take the pic in the garage, lol. I'll try to get a better one soon.

the only problem with painting it is that it is horribly illegal, and taking vinyl off for a cop is easier than scraping paint off the plastic for a cop

this is how i did mine bacc in the day. if the vinyl idea was on the boards then, i wouldve gone that route..

yeah it looks nice, but very illegal. I wonder if you left a small hole so the light could shine through if that would be legal, but it probably wouldnt look as badass

why not just change the light buld to another color? you are talking about the 3157 bulbs next to the air vents right? I'd just put clear bulbs on there, if it is the turn corner signals I believe you can take the housing out and actualy take it apart and apply a little bit of tint on it from the inside, I have seen peple use like a dark orange that that looks pretty cool

i put vinyl over it and took the bulb completely out of the socket so nothing shines through ... had the setup for over a year and no problems...

i wouldn't be using acetone on my headlights. it will eat the plastic. well at least it did to my interior vinyl pieces.

acetone dissolves plastic. My plastic ruler got mangled by acetone in Organic Chemistry Lab.

acetone doesn't eat through the headlight or taillight plastic, use it all the time.

I agree. I have vinyl and the vinyl has been getting tiny holes and marks in it over time. It would probably be much worse for paint.
