View Full Version : Factory XM in a GA with NON-factory XM

Hey does anyone know or has anyone put in a XM Gm radio into a grand am that didnt orignally come with XM.. i dont mean the aftermarket XM..im talking bout the one that comes with grand am cars..and then putting it in a grand am that didnt have it to begin with.
If this is posted elsewhere on the forums, sorry, i coulndt find it

The head unit might fit and the non-XM functions would work, but you'd still have to find a way to mount and wire the XM tuner box (which I think is a separate unit) and mount the factory antenna, which if you've seen factory XM installations, most likely involves punching a hole in the roof to mount it. Some dissassemly beyond just the console will probably be required to make it work to factory specs.
I've thought about it many times too on my '02 Grand Am, but ultimately I just went with an aftermarket unit. Yeah, it doesn't look factory-perfect, but the risk of cutting up my roof only to find the installation won't work wasn't a risk I was willing to take.
