I'm sure these are mixed in these thousands of posts some where but i was just wondering what are the correct idle speeds on our cars? I have noticed when i first start it up and its cold mine idles around 900 in park or neutral but if its in gear then it idles around 650, same if i start the car up and the car is already warm it idles in park and neutral at 650 also. Does everybody else's do this? Or what does every body else's do?

During the winter when I start my car it idles at around 11-1200. I guess normal idle on mine is about 650 - 700. dont really notice it when its nice out.

The engine will idle higher when you first start it up, and will drop down when you shift into gear. What you are describing is perfectly normal.

Cold 1100-1200rpm
Warmed up 500-600rpm

Mine must be a freak...

Idle at start - 1500rpm for the first 15 seconds (even on a 95 degree day)
Idle after 15 seconds - 1200rpm
Idle once engine reaches 150 degrees or more - 550 rpm (tapers off while the engine warms up)

I asked about the 1500rpm thing in the past and it doesn't seem to be of concern. It makes me a little worried if I put it in gear during the first 15 seconds because the engine wont slow down for the transmission and it will idle at a high speed while in gear which couldn't be good, so I usually idle until it will go down a bit.
