OK, I'm installing my dynamat. I'm planning on doing most of the car, starting on the problem areas first -- the rear deck and the trunk. I'm having problems removing the rear deck. I lowered the seats, removed the plastic trim between the trunk and the inside of the car, pulled out the friction fittings, now what?:duh: Does the plastic trim peice across the back of the roof have to be removed?

Also, I'm thinking of doing a vent through the rear deck with a bandpass box. I've built numerous sealed and ported enclosures, but never a bandpass. I feel it's time to broaden my knowelge a little and try something new. The top of the box will be about 4-6 inches below the rear deck. Are there any special requirements for the passage of the vent between the box and the deck? Will the vent have to be made of MDF or can my standard port tube work? Maybe one of you box experts might know a website where I can go for a little learnin' on this subject. :p

thanks

To get the rear deck off, you need to take the trim behind the coat hangers off. Also requires taking out the seat belt bolt too (not sure about sedans), which is a t50 .

I got the trunk done. I got my system all hooked back up to find I had no bass! Well, after finding one woofer was hooked up in reverse, I turned it back on and OMG! I had no idea how much dynamat helped a system. I swear my bump is twice as loud! And I still have the rest of the car to do! I had heard it would add about 3 Db's but I did'nt believe it. Best investment I have made in my car yet.

Thanks iceman, I've done the bottom of the deck, I'll try the top tommorow.

i'd say the car itself of the subs were the best investment :)

w/o the car you'd have no place to dynamat

w/o the subs you wouldnt really need to dynamat :)

j/k
i'm gonna do my dynamat after my next check, any tips to help me out?

I took everything out of the trunk. Then working with small peices, put it on every piece of metal I could reach. The stuff is mad stickky, so put it in place and see how it looks B4 removing the backing. I put two layers on the back wall and two layers under the deck. I seemed to be getting a lot of vibration there.

Oh, one more thing. I keep calling it dynamat, but its not really. It's actually Fatmat. Got 100 square feet of it on EBAY for like $99, as compared to 12 square foot of dynamat extreme (door kit) for about $60. It works well, I would highly recommend it.

Good job on the mat. I can't tell you how many times I've seen even professional installers just slap a big sheet up over the trunk lid and call in done. Cut it into smaller pieces so that there are no bubbles or areas where the mat loses contact going over something. It's time consuming, but it works 10 times better this way.

Port throughs are the best way to get SPL without losing the rear seat. I would be happy to assist in the box design if you don't have access to software. The port has to be a certain size and length, but it doesn't matter if it's inside the box or not. So basicly run the port up to your hole, outside the box. Most bandpass designs call for a port somewhat larger than standard 3 or 4 inch pipe, so either convert it to a square vent or find large PVC at Home Depot.... Make sure to seal the edges of the port to the rear deck, meaning use mat or fiberglass (the latter is permenent....) to cover the open area around the vent opening to keep the pressure inside the cabin where it belongs.

Hope that helped....

Thanks AmIGrand. Actually I have'nt even touched the trunk lid itself. Kinda leary about it, since it shows and all. Should I paint or carpet it when I get through? Whats the best way to keep it from looking like azz?

I'll be in touch if I decide to go ahead with the vent through. I'll need all the help I can get. :D

Well, that depends. Either leave it showing, or carpet right over it (permanent) or build a panel to cover it (more work, but removable).
