OK my first time posting, so here goes.

I have 99 GT with 58k miles on it, and no recent problems before this. I started the car this morning and my driver side headlight went out and my Service Vehicle Soon light came on at the same time. I checked the owners manual to find out what this light was for and it says there could be a problem with the DRL(daytime running lights) or ALC(automatic lever control). My first question is what in the world is an ALC, and my second is, should I replace the lightbulb myself and then disconnect the battery and let it reset and see if that turns the light off or should I just take it to a mechanic to get looked at? Any information about this would be a big help, thanks.

You should beable to do this yourself!

Disconnect the battery and change the head light when the computer resets the service soon will go out.

I went to Autozone ,got a bulb and replaced the burnt out one. Started up the car and then poof, the Service Vehicle Soon light didnt show back up. Didn't even have to unhook the battery. Thanks alot for the advice and keeping me from having to go to a mechanic and paying who knows how much to fix a simple problem.

You don't need to unhook the battery to clear an SVS, that is false information. The battery resets the PCM whereas an SVS is kicked on by signals from the BCM.

Most of the time an SVS is when you have a headlight out. You can tell if it is your DRLs if it comes on when you take the car out of park (During the daytime) and it comes on within about 20 seconds. If it's your low beams / autolights, it will do it within 20 seconds of the car coming on at night.
