2002 GA SE steering column lock?

I tried the search mode but couldn't find an answer.

I've had my 2002 SE for less than a month and I'm curious if the steering column is supposed to lock when the key is removed like every other GM I've owned. I'm thinking no since the ignition switch is in the dash but would like to know for sure.
