I have teh 4-door RK kit and I took it to be painted. One shop has it and told me it would be $2,000 ($1,965.50) to resand, fill spots, clean, prime, paint BC/CC. Now they aer also doing my Hood around the air inlets in corvette ZO6 metallic silver and the trim around my SC/T spoiler in that color. Is this a good deal or am I getting screwed? I don't have things painted often enough to know. The guys normally work with BMW, Porsche, Volvo, Lotus so I think they do good work but I have no idea.

Thanks,
Adam

for superb work, that price is right on. However, if your wanting paint just thrown on, you can get it done for much cheaper. Go around town and get more estimates if you want a cheaper price, its that easy.

Thats a real good price. Most shops in my area that do great work are on average charge $400 for each body part except wings thats a bit cheaper and the side skirts are about $200 but there is 2 of them obviously so $400 for those also.

My kit, including my wing and shaved trunk keyhole, was $1,950. Sounds about right to me. I'm not saying you did this, but alot of people don't realize that the most expensive part of getting a kit is the paint and install. Buying the kit is only step 1.

I know it is not cheap. I was just making sure that this was the right price and the #'s were not pulled out of there ass. As long as everyone thinks it sounds about right I will stick with these guys. They told me they were glad it is not fiberglass because that would take more prep time.

I don't understand why you guys have people fit your kits for you, do it yourself lol.
I paid 600$ (Canadian) for my *** kit to be painted, and it matches 99%.
Then I simply installed it myself, and avoided scratching anything.

One thing that you have to rember is labor time. Thats what gets everyone. Every shop is diffrent in there times. It could range from 35 to 65 an hour even more than that. It all depends on where you go and where you live.

That price is not with the product installed. I have to do that myself which is one thing I have done to many cars in the past (Bodykits). The $2,000 was for the resand, fill spots, clean, prime, paint BC/CC, two tone hood, two tone spoiler, then I put the kit on and they wetsand and finish it.

The primer on the Rk kit was coming off with my fingernail on those side door pieces. So part of the money comes from having to do RK's work over again.

$2,000 does not include install? Damn... Yeah, that's sounds more than just a little steep. Sounds a lot steep to me. Time to shop around.

granted, i have a bug, but i can get my entire car sanded, primed, all body dents and rust fixed, and painted a metallic two-tone paint job (if i so wanted) for $2500. i'd say that price is a bit steep, as well.

I don't think it's that bad. It all depends on your area, some places are much cheaper than others.
Around here, the going rate is 2k for a body kit. And that's JUST the kit. No hood, nothing.

A quick spray of the car with the FACTORY color is 4k or so, and if you wanted to change the color it'd be anywhere from 5 to 10k.

If you wanted something like elim said, with dents and rust fixed, other body work, and a 2-tone metallic paint job, expect to pay a good amount in excess of 10k.

Seriously. It's freakin' ridiculous. And everyone wonders why i'm willing to drive for hours just to get a paint job.

It's also one of the main reasons insurance is so damn high here. A light accident on a brand new car and it's totalled. Other areas of the country might be able to fix it for a couple grand, but here it'd be totalled, or close to it.
People are constantly changing their cars because of this. There are so many claims and insurance replacements it's not funny.
I've seen almost brand new cars int he junkyards, becaue a couple side doors are banged up. No frame damage or anything else. It would've cost too much to fix.

Lol ok, I went on a tangent. :)
Sorry.

Anyway, my point was that depending on your area, it may be lot or it may be a little.
It might pay to call surrounding areas, say 4 to 8 hours away, and see if the prices are any lower.

Agree with the price, now if you were to work on it yourself, like sanding and filling(not too hard of a job,I did my whole kit myself and had no expirence) and paint was only thing I paid for,did the fitting and everything myself, once again,no expierence with fiberglass work or anything and I showed the guy painting it and he works on fiberglass for a living(semi truck body stuff) and said I did a great job for not having done it b4.Its not a hard thing to learn,if your willing to and don't feel like paying someone else to do all the work, which in the long run will cost a lot, labor is what gets you.But for that price it sounds good:)

i have gripes about expensive paint jobs, my dad dropped 3k on a paint job on a car, long story short, it flaked/chipped in a year...

so shop around, go to local car shows, find out who paints what, and $, yadda yadda, research man... researc

the fiberglass front bumpers will start to chip and flake almost immediatly if you have to drive in heavy traffic at all. Especially because there is construction everywhere in America. I've hade my kit on for a few months and I already want my front re-painted, but this time with a healthy amount of clear.
