View Full Version : Motor swap (replacement)

I'm swapping the motor in my mom's car this weekend (2.4l I4) she bought it used, apparently it had never had an oil change, it slugged up and fried a main bearing all at the grand total of only 80200 kms.
Anyway I have the book, the replacement motor and it looks straightforward, is there anything funny that I should remember, look out for or do to make this go smoothly?!?!?
Thanks if there are any tips or suprises that I should know!!!

mark every wire ~ masking tape and marker!
take pictures of all items you will be taking out
keep similar items together ~ power steering pump with pump bolts
Remember how all the air hoses go ~ pictures!
Digital camera is the best for this job ~
I wish I took more when I took the engine out of my bonnie ssei
Eneded up with 2 extra bolts hehe and to this day I can not find where they go, but the car runs right!

Well it went well, never got a chance to read this until today!!!
I marked the wires and used zip lock bags to hold the bolts for different items together and everything went well because of that.
Would have been smoother if I had realized that the motor will come out easier with the crank pulley and tensioner off as well. Went back in alot easier because of this!!!
Other that that there were no hickups and everything went well, not the easiest motorswap, but not the worst either.
