Hello all. I was wondering if anyone knows how to test an ignition coil to see if it is bad? Was instrument do you use?

If you are talking about the coil pack like gm uses on most of their engines you can disconnect two plug wires that are on the same coil and start the engine. The engine will be running on four cylinders and the spark will jump the gap between the two posts where you pull the wires. If the spark is a blueish color then the coil is good, if it is yellow the coil is on its downfall. You will throw a check engine light (misfire code) but the light will go off after you hook up the wires and turn the car on and off a couple times. Also if you lay your hand or arm across those points with the 12volt source hot, you will get a wicked jolt, it will not kill you but you will be down for awhile.
