View Full Version : Alternator quest

So a few weeks ago, my car was acting goofy on my drive home from class. Lights went out then turned back on.... made it home...then the car wouldnt start. I have a brand new Optima Red Top in there so im assuming its my alternator. I know I still have to get it tested but Im almost positive that it is the source of my problems.

I called Advance Auto Parts... they couldnt help me.

I called Napa... they couldnt help me.

I called Car Quest... they couldnt help me.

Midas quoted me 336 for the rebuilding of the one I have now...

and last but now least... the dealer over here quoted me 700+
294 for the part...and 450 for install

I hear its not a very hard install, but I have no space or tools. It also boggles my mind why none of these other shops were able to get any alternators whatsoever for my car...not just the OEM replacement.

Now my question for any willing to help is.... should I order one and attempt to do an install on my own... shell out 336 for rebuilding my potentially focked one... or let it sit there and collect more bird sh!t. All/Any input is welcome. Thanks

dude, go to and look for yours which i believe it 210 bucks.

and it is a high output one so if u ever wanna add any audio/vid accessories or like 300 sets of underbodies to your car.
