So, today I bought a 1996 Grand Am GT Sedan, with the 3.1 V6 Automatic. I would've liked a manual, but hey, it was only $1000.

Anyway, there are a couple of problems…

It rattles a little bit, enough to be annoying. Two of the windows don't work, and the others go very slow. I'm thinking it is a fuse problem, but I'm not sure. The sound system is stock, and it pops every so often. It's kind of dirty, need a coat of wax, nothing a little elbow grease wouldn't take care of. It also needs new tires and an oil change.

As for working on it, I want my mods to be mostly cosmetic, a set of Xenon bulbs for the highs/lows and fog. New taillights, the V on the V6 is chipped, and little things like that get to me so, that too. You see, nothing too crazy.

As for power, I would eventually like to get it up to about 250 horsepower. A new air intake, a racing chip, just some small things to get it up there, nothing drastic, just making it a fun ride.

So, anything you suggest for a first timer? I would really like to get in on the modding scene.

Oh, here is a picture. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v88/Humanist/IMG_1284.jpg)

Or, and what about these? (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33597&item=7929673444&rd=1) Are they bull****?

How many miles? Don't go pouring money into the engine to get it up to whatever power only to have the car crap out on you 10,000 miles later. I suggest just doing some minor things and then saving money to get a newer car with less miles... then mod away

Nice car... 250 hp isn't really possibly with just "simple mods."

And yes, that ebay garbage you posted doesn't work. Do a search on the forums and you'll get way more information than you asked for. As far as the other problems, like the windows, that's quite normal.

80,000 isn't that bad. My Buick had 172,000 and it was still going strong.

welcome to GAGT.COM,that Ebay link smells like a pile of steaming sh1t don't buy into it,and like the other people said getting you car up to 250HP is not gonna be easy nor cheap, just make sure that the car is running well and is reliable then you can work more hours and get a newer car and then talk about MOD's,

The 3100 and 3400 are very similer motors. Look at the quickest 60DegreeV6 N/A....he has the 3100.

But welcome to the site. I believe I have the quickest naturally aspirated grand am (14.6) at the moment with a 95 GAGT, so if you need any help at all, feel free to shoot me a PM or a IM on AIM.
