I used to own a 2000 grand am GT and loved the car. I never really did any performance mods to it though. :(

Anyway, I decided to join and lurk around a bit.

Currently I drive:
2000 3.8 Mustang Supercharged/Intercooled 11psi

Pics/Vids here (including the dynograph of my last pull):

Looking forward to reading/posting! One day I hope to get another Grand Am GT and see what I can do with it.

Was the SC put on your Mustang similiar to the T-birds SC? Good numbers on that motor.

No, it's an aftermarket kit I installed. It's a centrifugal blower, not a "roots" blower like on the cobras/t-birds. Unfortunately, nobody makes a roots blower setup for the 3.8 and fabbing that up would be ridiculous. New lower intake, fuel rail, everything.

The cool thing about this kit is that it's in a blow through MAF setup like a turbo would be. So I have a blow off valve for the lovely "PSHHH" sound.

Like everyone here, it's a v6! :metal:

Is the tranny the same on the V6 and V8? If not, how is it holding up?

They were, then they gave the GT a T-3650 and the v6 stayed with the T-5. The T-5 has been around a LONG time. I don't know if the T-3650 is any stronger.

The weakness and the 1st thing that will go in my car is the rear end. The 3.8s have a 7.5" rear end, the v8s have a 8.8" rear. I'm pushing WAY more power than a stock v8, so we'll see how long she holds up.

It costs around $600 for a used 8.8 and it's a direct swap. Worse case scenario, I'll have to swap it out.

Edit: to answer the question. She's holding up well!

$600 for a used 8.8?!?! Damn boy, I have a lot I can get for like $100 around here.

And how is the T-5 holding up? I need to change my fluid BAD and I think the 1-2 syncro is going bad.

For a 99+ rear? The <=98 models rear axle is 1.5" shorter in length and looks tacky on a 99+ car. So I need a 99+ 8.8 rear.

If you find me a 99+ one for a good price, I will buy it from you. Shoot me a price including shipping (zip 29732) and your commission! :)

T5 is performing surprisingly well. I just changed the fluid a month or two ago myself.

Let me know if you find one! It would be worth paying $100+ for shipping if you can find them for as cheap as you can!
