View Full Version : Changing the engine belt...
I just got back from the mechanic.
They want to charge me about 80 bucks to put the belt on.
I have until tomorrow to decide to have it done or not. It has some pretty deep cracks in it from the anitfreeze leaking on it.
How hard is it to do it myself?

I am not sure which engine you have, I know on my 3100 you have to remove the motor mount bolts and jack up the engine. Beyond that it is not hard.
Check out these how to links one is for a 3.4,
I doubt that I'm gonna do this myself though. I feel safer having a pro do it, ya know?
Better safe than sorry I guess.

$ 80 is alot. Its much less than 1 hour labour, find a garage with a chaeper labour rate for this repair.
You need basic hand tools and a jack to do this yourself, theres instructions in the how to section.

yeah, dealerships' prices are almost always gonna be a LOT higher than a reputable private mechanic, or maybe even a Midas/Meineke(you wont pay a lot, but youll get a lot! lol) but the belt on a 31/3400 requires some time and effort if you havent done it before
