View Full Version : Looks like the LIM is starting to leak at 27k mi.
Right now it looks like it's just a little bit of dexcool residue running down the right side of the front cylinder head and maybe even a little from the freeze plug. My wife uses the car as a daily driver and noone ever abuses or beats the car. When these things go bad do they just blow out all at once? Could I get away with it until spring or should I bite the bullet, make some time, and do it now (even though I really don't have the time right now). Also, has anyone else ever had a leaky freeze plug? It may just be the way it's running down from the LIM gasket but it doesn't look that way.

Id take it in and have it looked at being your still under warranty. Isnt something you wanna really just drive around with constantly. Its a 500 plus dollar job so fix it before you go over your miles :)

Warranty expired several months ago - dealer sevice sucks anyway so that's fine with me. Oil looks fine, it just looks like it's leaking externally for now, although that pic may have motivated me somewhat. :D

It is your LIM leaking. Mine did the samething at 24k. Have you checked your coolant? Mine was leaking oil into the coolant when it was leaking just like yours. It may be worse than you think. My car is running really good now that its fixed; didnt realize how bad the car was running with the leak.
yeah, double checked coolant and oil - looks ok. It looks like I just happened to notice the beginning of it while I was checking the air filter the other day. I'll probably do it as soon as possible (which means now I have to clean the garage out)

Heh, i wouldnt mind going through the PITA process with the dealer getting it fixed if its gonna save me 5-600 sucks :D
How many miles does the car have now?
But it won't save me 5-600 bucks, the warranty is expired and they would just screw it up anyway like every time we took the Reatta there and then lie to us. Car has 27k and change - it's past the 36 months.

I can see the external leak on my car. But I have been driving it like that for a while. I have added little bit of coolent only twice since I got this car new. I have 60,000 miles now. I never got coolent light and the engine oil seems fine. So I guess mine isn't that severe.

In due time it will get REALLY bad. Consider it a count down when ya notice it for the first time.

Its just a matter of time. Mine dint start till 55K.
ok here's a question I've not seen on here yet about these things. Once you fix it does it come back in another 30,000 miles or is it the way they did something at the factory?

If you get the revised gasket you shouldnt ever see the problem again.

I have read posts where people have had it leak twice but thats becuase they dint use the revised gasket. I dont think i have read any threads of people having the same problem with the revised gasket.
Revised gasket? I was planning on getting a Fel-Pro manifold gasket kit at the local auto parts place. Would that be a revised gasket? What are the differences?

If ya do a search you will find the part # and what exaclty the differences are. I cant remember the specifics.
