i did a 165.5 on a really gay mic..totally bogus..on an accurate linear X i would be 150-155 db's..there are no accurate mics up here past 150 db's so im screwed..lets just say im over 150 :)

Those Type-R's are pretty good. Dont sound too bad. I got a friend hitting a little over 150 db with 2 12" alpine Type-r's .

Ya, I imagine at full power with a little tweaking I should be able to get near there.
But the amp is getting tired. Every once and a while after working it real hard my car has a good odor of ozone.

Yep i dont see any reason why you wouldnt be near there. Hes been tweaking his for a while now, i think hes gone thru 3 boxes.
Not too sure what amp hes using but its pretty good sized. Ouch sounds like times getting close for a new amp.

Well...I had my doors shut (windows up), the USAC judge placed the mic with the globe around it and the mic condom on it down in the right passenger footwell...basically under the dash.

You two have somewhat believable #'s, although 140 is pretty high for a single 10w6. It's the high 140's and mid 150's I see claimed all over here that don't add up to me.
Not flaming anyone, just curious. 150 ANYTHING is incredible in a sedan with the subs in the trunk, no matter what they are.

Ok, since no one bothered to explain this to me... I Macgyvered a spl measuring device myself out of a karaeoke machine, an ohm meter, some chicken wire, and two sticks of Doublemint gum. So far I have about 192.3 with 1 JL 10WO. That sound right? lol
Just figured I'd tease since no one would help me out... enjoy your thread, bassheads:wave:

yeah I agree with you amigrand..many say 150's isnt much for 4 12's..just shows how much they know really..the meter here is certified to 150, and is about as low as a linear X..so its not a forgiving meter..and when your tuned to 33 hz for spl..that makes for a really low burp..i topped out the meter at 150 db's with a 40 hz tone..which is very low..i need to get it on a meter that is certified above 150..I am guessing 153-154..

LOL I'll answer you. You CAN buy a meter if you want. If you have about $600 laying around. Radio shack has one for less than $50, but it only hits about 120 Db's. Best bet, find a stereo shop locally that will measure it for you. Try them on a slow day when they are bored out of their minds and will jump at the chance do do something. :D Plan on measuring mine after I finish my matting job. I'm hoping for low 140's. Good luck.

With my 2 12" MA audio XE's I was doing mid 120's with my POS jensen amp (only 400RMS) when I got my visonik it was more like low 140's at a safe power level, and high 140's when I cranked it...
Unfortunatly I have this tendancy to crank the **** for all it's worth... if smoke counted towards SPL those MA's would have had me in the 170's... :D
I plan on doing high 140's with the 2 15" subs I ordered ported at 20Hz with 1000RMS.... when I buy another amp I will be able to feed them 3000RMS (continuous rating) and I think I should be able to hit high 150's if I change the portes so they are tuned around 70 Hz..

So I got bored over the weekend and decided that my 2 12" Bazooka DVC (4 ohm) just weren't kicking hard enough with just 760 rms ... about 130. So then I got off my ass and added the second amp to the system. Well I actually had to turn the amps down, cuz I was about to rattle my fillings out. I went to the local sound shop and bumped out at about 145-147. not bad. Now I need new rear deck speakers. Blew one. sooo ****ed so ****ed.

Just for a little reality check you start to do permanent hearing damage at around 120 dB. 150 dB is louder than a rock concert a jet and is about the same as a gunshot with the muzzle right next to your ear. I really hope you guys are using protection of some kind.
Ok off my soap box now
I got a bazooka 4Ohm 12 in sub in a 2ft cu-in ported box that is tuned to 30 hz and being powerd by a bridged Ample a410 delivering 150W RMS and damn I wanna test it.

The human ear is not uniformly sensitive across the audio spectrum. 120 db below 100 Hz is not gonna do much to your hearing, 120 Db at 4 Kz.... Well, it's not fun. Permanent damage from bass starts at about 140, things don't get IMMEDIATLEY threatening 'till 150. Anyone who has a system capable of 150 doesn't drive around at that volume all the time, I promise - it's physically painful!! Not just your ears, but EVERYTHING hurts at that point.

For SQ competition, there is no minimum you have to hit, but you will lose points. For the SPL part of the regular SQ competition, you are awarded 1 point for every Db over 100, with a maximum of 30 points. Anything you hit over 130 only helps your score for SQ+ or SPL competition.

Most of the time $10 if you are not going to compete nationally.

Mine is that same way except my CD doesn't skip well thats because I bought an Alpine they never skip. They use a different type of system to make it so that they don't skip. Unlike Sony they use a shock system.

JL has an Eclipse with 2 10W7's in sealed boxes with a 500/1 to each (2 amps) hitting 152's, so I doubt you're in the 150's with a single sub in that car. The W7 is an awesome woofer to be sure, but somewhere about 139 to 142 is what I'd expect t see there if the system is set up right. You know you're nearing 150 when you can't stand to be in the vehicle while it's cranked. :D

Above 194 Db, it's no longer a soundwave, it's a shockwave. At that level the air becomes solid....
Space shuttle launch, at the launchpad - 180 Db
Small hydrogen bomb at ground zero - approx. 215 Db (not a joke).
Remember - SPL is a measurement of pressure, and can be extrapolated from energy transfer, etc.... So while I doubt they had a mic there, they know what the shockwave was doing. :D

yeah i know what slotted vent boxes are.. but a 1 inch hole sounds kinda small.. assuming he means 1 inch by 1 inch.. still sounds small even if thats only one dimension..
