Mission: G-Machine meets understated road racer
Criteria: wheel/tire package, aerodynamic additions, background, detracted from factory styling, almost capable of being a production model.

The final chops will turn out a lot better if we start with a high-res image. Maybe we can start next contest.

Also with that, you might want to have a final limit to submit [this is how it is normally done] so that everybody isn't posting such a big file. I'd suggest starting with an image bigger than 1600 x XXXX, and maybe a final size of 800x600 max.

The board Troy and I used to do contests on ran through all these problems during the course of the time they ran, That's why we mentioned all that stuff in the other thread [To prevent the kind of crap that went on over there w/ people bitching and cheating... etc.]

That all sounds very reasonable. Seeing as how this first month has already began, we'll stay with the current picture. Next month will feature a higher resolution picture.

I will definately entertain any other reasonable suggestions as to the proceedings of this "event".

I hope to have the event sponsored in the future... Get workin' guys and gals... :)

It actually looks like there's somebody already sitting there.

The only way to get better at chopping is to practice, which is pretty much the point of all this. I suggested it because I'd like to see more people on these boards get into it, and to see what they can come up with. I think anybody that wants to give it a shot, should... It will help you get a lot better seeing what others think about your work, even if it isn't positive at first [and most of the time it isn't]. Don't be scurred :thumbs:

The way it worked on the other site, you could post em up and change it as many times as you want until the due date. Just keep in mind you're showing the other guys what they're up against, and they will be able to adjust theirs, or copy things that you've done.

:werd a high res image is easier to start with then size it down after the chop...maybe I'll give this a shot :boogie:

Whoa, not bad at all. I would suggest blurring the edges of the shadow, and maybe make it a little less opaque.

You did a very good job cutting it out, what tool did you use?

Also good job on the billboard sign :thumbs: maybe blur that slightly too to give the illusion of depth more [blur it until it matches the surrounding areas].

I also see a little line of silver in front of the rear tire that you might want to black out.

I can't wait to see more.

I would suggest changing the rims ;x lol

I'm sure people will vote for the one that looks the best anyway, regardless of that rule, but we'll see.

kevin i would suggest u stay away from chopping GA parts on there... i mean the G6 is supposed to be a "new" car so i think it would be best to come up w/ new stuff

Oh, and i cut the car with the polygon lasso tool. It takes patience, but its the most effective tool ive used. The magnetic need a really nice edge, and the freehand one is impossible. The magic wand is okay if its really defined, such as a solid color background.

Cool... with some practice you'll find the pen tool is the best at stuff like that. Can't beat it.

It's pretty much the same as the polygon lasso, except for the fact if you hold the mouse down while you click a point, you can drag it to curve the line. It's definitely easier than clicking a whole bunch of different points along a curve.

I think the part that throws people off is this. After you curve a line, make sure you alt+click on that last point, otherwise it is going to continue that same curve. It's kinda hard to explain but I know once you get used to it you will never use the polygonal tool [plus you can save the selections you make w/ the pen tool and resize them up/down as much as you want w/o losing quality]

I dunno if he is alive or not but i have a more updated pic im uploading. Nothing major, new paint, hood scoop, sidepipes, lightly larger rear spoiler, extended front and rear ground effects. I would really like comments. Im not sure how to work with the body panels at all. The scoop is a first guess/shot. Any creative critism would be appreciate.

I think you mean burn, not dodge. The top of the hood needs to be a little bit darker to look more realistic. I like the side exit exhaust though vinaashak, I bet nobody else does that.

Thanks guys. Here is another front end I am working on. I would comvert it to a coupe, but it says a "G-Machine meets understated road racer" so I highly doubt many road racers will convert their G6 to a coupe from a sedan.

Yeah, im not blaming anyone for sketchyness, just pointing things out to help out. And im just realizing i did mean the dodge tool for the front bumper. The burn tool darkens. The dodge tool lightens, and would bring out detail in the bumper.

On both 2 door conversions id say it doesnt look right. The window behind the door thats supposed to be small is still like original size. It just looks like a four door with some accidental welding. Thats my 2 cents.

well this is what i have.the red one was my first chop ever, trying to learn everything and an attempt at *cough* lambo doors. and then the blue one is the more serious chop. i know there is some "overspray" and its kind of dark but it helps hide some of my imperfections. i always thought that the g6's look like grand prix's so i basically ripped off botlefed's car with his mods. it doesnt have to be in the contest. i jsut wanted to show you guys and tell you to watch out for next month. lol. oh yeah BTW mysterious that website you posted with the tutorials helped a lot. thanks :thumbs:
