I have a 04 alero with the 2.2l ecotec and a 5 speed tranny. I was wondering how the shifter knob comes off and if i could make it so i don't have to lift up collar to get it into reverse. i want to put on a different shift knob.

I replaced my shifter with a B&M shifter, and it is great. If all you are interested in is removing the reverse lockout, just remove the shift boot, and you will see the platic tab that causes the interference. Dremel the tab off and you can shift into reverse without pulling the collar up. To remove the stock knob, just twist and pull up, its just pressed on, not threaded.
