my friend and i went looking for a car for him. we saw a '00 gt coupe and checked it out. popped the hood and looked good. but then saw this part on the passenger side in front of the white coolant bottle. it looked stock. anybody else have this. not on my car. i just have any empty space.

probably part of an emissions deal. Cars from New York and California, possibly some others have emissions parts added to them.

well thats what i thought. but how did a car from up north end up down here in AL

possibly someone from NY moved down there, traded the car...
Dealers go to nationwide wholesale auctions and buy cars and truck them back to their location. Theres many ways.

is this a good deal: '00 gt coupe, black, 66k miles, $8900, new tires

Thats not a bad price, not a good price though- its the going rate. Wouldn't hurt to try to talk them down a little.

or how about a 98' grand prix gt w/ 120k miles, silver, new kumho tires, $6600

I think that might be a little high.
Im not quite sure on GP's so i did a little autotrader searching and theres some around my area going for less with less miles.
ex: 98 GT 86k miles, alarm, new tires, tint, the works for $5300
98GT 117k miles $5000
and the list goes on..

If it is attached to a black metal bracket that is vertical and held on by a piece of black metal banding then it is the Cruise Control module. the module itself is like 4"x 6" and pretty much squared off on each corner. It is a raw grey metal color and has 1 electrical clip with like 6 or 8 wires and then another connector going to it as well... i forget if it was electrial or not, i would assume it would be tho.
