i was told by the dealership that you should change your timing belt every 60,000 miles is that a good thing to do or are they trying to get money out of me?

its a chain not a belt, i havent heard anything like that at 60,000 miles i think the timing chain is supposed to be 100,000 mile certified- but so is the dex/cool, transmission fluid and spark plugs haha not sure how long its REALLY gonna last- nah but i havent heard of anybody having timing chain problems

Your car has a 3400 IIRC. Those use timing chains, not belts. You can go 200k on a timing chain. A timing belt will only last you 60k. The last GM motor to ever use a timing belt was the 3.4 DOHC motor. That was phased out in '97.

That's a pretty shady dealership if they told you to change your timing belt every 60k miles...when 3400s use timing chains to begin with. Though I'd like to see them try to install a timing belt on your car lol

That is very sound advice. It just doesn't apply to your car.

I wonder if he meant the serpentine belt. I don't believe they have a set interval for changing it. When it starts to heat crack, replace it.
