Hi Guys,

I just bought a new 2004 Grand Am GT for my wife. I've been driving it a lot and its a pretty fast car. I am not new to modifying cars, but I am new to this car. I just have some questions I hope you all can answer to help me figure what I want to do to it.

Goal: Fun daily-driver capable of low 13's / high 12's

How much hp can this engine withstand on the stock bottom-end and still be a reliable daily driver?

In your opionion:

What is the best intake/exhaust out there?

What are the best forced induction (turbo/supercharger) options out there?

What are my options as far as the ECU is concerned?

What tires will give best traction for this car?

I know these questions have probably been asked a million times before by someone like me, so don't feel obligated to answer them if you don't want to. As for those who do answer, I truly appreicate it and I thank you for your time.

*welcome*
First off, make friends with the search button and read up on all the opinions and reviews. Just asking those questions will get you a ton of very different responses (and always starts a fight or two).
As far as tires, the general consensus is anything but the stock RSA's! lol
There are no turbo kits (you'd have to make it custom), and there is only one remaining s/c kit (RSM's, though they recently raised the price. :nono: )
The low 13's are a long way off, there are some members here with extensive work who still aren't there or just barely get there.
As far as an intake, a Stage 3 CAI from Doctorspeed.com is good, or you can visit n-body.net and build your own cheaper using Civic parts. SLP and Borla make bolt-up cat backs, or you can again go the custom route with any brand of muffler you prefer and pipping from any local muffler shop.

I hope this answers some of your questions, search through the forums and browse the All Go section. You'll find a ton of information here.

fun and high 12's low 13's dont belong in the same sentence. it will take ALOT of work w/out nitrous to get it there.

welcome.

"fun and high 12's low 13's dont belong in the same sentence....."

Why is that? I see a lot of cars that are 13/12 second cars that run reliably everyday and are fun to drive

"it will take ALOT of work w/out nitrous to get it there......"

What about with a supercharger, intake, exhaust, and ECU tuning? I'm sure it could run 13s

From what info i've gathered so far a Vortech supercharger running 8 psi boost should give you approximately 260 hp at the flywheel. Thats just with the S/C. Add intake, exhaust, underdrive pulley, and some ecu tweaking should give you roughly 300 hp at the flywheel and maybe 260 hp at the wheels. You still have head porting & polishing, ignition, etc. RSM also offers an upgraded S/C that blows 12 psi with injectors for a bit more money.

Well, either way I like the car and I look forward to tuning it.

because its a grand am dude. once u search you will understand that there are people here who have intake, exhaust, headers, dhp chip, etc and only running 14's.

fock, even people with s/c'ers are only running 14's.

im just giving u the heads up, cause a year from now you will agree with me that those times arent going to happen unless u do alot of work to it.

im just trying to help, and if u like ur car then more power to ya. give it a shot. :)

.

this car doesnt take to well to anything...there are only a handfull of GA's that run 13's and i know of none that run 12's. the car has a problem with the lim gasket corroding and leaking coolant into your oil and vice versa. oh and the tranny doesnt take well to mods either...itl take it for a while...then die a really short death. the aftermarket for the car is hideously expensive as well. if you got the cash more power to ya....but if you dont..youve got a long road ahead of you

here i will help you out and copy this for ya. look at these peoples times and then search to see what they have done and u will realize that u are spending too much money trying to get ur car to be in the 12's, which no grand am on this site has seen (except for that one guy with the 92 or whatever grand am running 11's). not to mention, say goodbye to the good ole warranty.
