View Full Version : Exhast swap

I just traded my 01 GT for a 05 GT with the SCT package. I have the Borla on my 01 and I want to trade it with the 05. My dealer is letting me have both cars over the weekend. I know the stock exhaust is one piece so I will have to cut it to get it off the 05. When I go to install it on the 01, I will have to join it back together. So, is the best & cheapest route to get a sleeve to slip over the two ends and clamp it together? What is the diameter of the stock exhaust pipe on the GT so I know what size sleeve to get?

I'm pretty sure the GTs are 2.25"

I doubt they'd want you cutting the exhaust if it's going on the trade-in. Ask them if they'll swap it with the car up on the lift. If you lift the car high enough you don't need to cut the pipes.

They said it would cheaper to buy a new Borla exhaust than to have them do the swap. So it would not be cost effective to have them do it. They are happy to get a new muffler on my used car. BTW, how high do you have to lift it to get the pipes out without cutting them?

Hey why not take it to a muffler shop . They will probably charge you about $150.00 or so to do it & nothing will have to be cut up. When I got my Borla I had a shop install it & it was 80 bucks.

Higher than a jack and jack stands. Probably about as high as they lift it to do an oil change, that would make it a lot easier.

U will need a actually lift. Take it to any muffler shop they should do it for like 100 bucks but u have to give them a few days notice.
