Hello everyone,
I'm new to the board today, and I hope I'm not ticking anyone off by posting a new thread already. I have a silver 2000 grand am gt. For the last year I have been really throwing around the idea of buying a body kit and maybe even a Ram Air hood. I'm thinking that when my tax refund gets here I might buy the kit. Now my question is to everyone that has kits on their cars. How much is normal for to pay to have it painted? I'm talking about a front bumper, rear bumper, and two side skirts. It's the Kato Combat kit from andysautosport.com. And how much to paint the hood also? I was quoted about a year ago by a local body shop at $600 to paint the kit, but they've since closed down. If anyone could help me out in any advice with buying a kit and what the figures should be as far as prices, I would really appreciate it. Thanks a lot!

Was that $600 to fit it to your car and paint it, or just paint it? That's a pretty good price if it's for fitting/painting. All body kits need some tweaking to fit flush so be prepared.

I got mine installed for free, and paid 600 for paint on front, back, sides, and hood.

That was $600 to paint and fit. They were a really small shop but had a really good reputation. Unfortunately they are no longer open. And I want to go somewhere they I can count on a good job and they have they have experience with body kits.

400 bucks to paint my skirts and bumpers and installed. I used to work at the dealership, however.
Um shipped from Andys I think mine cost 800 or something? I can't remember.

You have a four door or two door? If 4, your skirts might need re fiberglassed. Mine came about half an inch too short, and they had to notch it out and re-fiberglass another half an inch on there so it would wrap into my wheelwells. Can't tell with the finished produst. My CarDomain link is down below if you want to look at it (black GA).

Cool, I looked at your car on cardomain before, it looks sweet! I have a 4 door. I didn't know about the skirts. Was it expensive to have them do that? Thanks...

They didn't charge me. It really wasn't that big of a deal, though. The guys work fast, took em maybe an hour to get it done, then just had to let it dry and painted it the next day. I got it back in 3 days, ready to roll.

Yours might fit, who knows. I think I'm one of the few whos skirts didn't fit exactly right. But then again, what bodykit does fit exact.

Ok, cool. I didn't know if it was a big job or not. Thanks a bunch, and I'd love any other advice. I'm just weighing all of my options before I decide to buy or not.

Advice: Ship it directly to where you'll have it painted if they allow it. The box is HUGE when it comes. Or make sure you have a pickup truck.

Oh, another thing. Does everyone's auto insurance cover you if you would crack the kit or get in an accident?

I believe that depends on who you have. Just call your agent and ask, tell them you want to add the value of the kit to your insurance so it's covered in case anything happens.

For an extra $30 a year my insurance covers the body kit and my stereo equiptment. I think I can afford 30 bucks to cover over $3000 (Body Kit, materials, sound system). Just make sure to keep your receipts for everything.
