It's the multi-function switch. It's a very common recall issue. Any dealer should be able to fix it for free.

Well you're a first then.

I have not recieved a recall issue, nor has anyone else to my knowledge. I don't know why they would recall it, it's not a safety issue.

Well I take that back, www.mycarstats.com have the recall listed for 2001 grand ams, but not 1999 or 2002, so that is really odd. So, there is a recall, but it seems to not affect every 99+ owners.

Oh oops my bad - I didn't see he had a 2002 GA. I have a 01, and got the recall for that, but maybe it happened with the 2002's also.

Here are the VIN breaks.
Year Division Model From Through
2000 Chevrolet Malibu Y6226571 Y6352520

2001 Chevrolet Malibu 16100003 16281822
1M500024 1M669822

2000 Oldsmobile Alero YC001581 YC002052
YC372245 YC435078

2001 Oldsmobile Alero 1C100001 1C250905

2000 Pontiac Grand Am YC535849 YC568892
YM792549 YM886948

2001 Pontiac Grand Am 1C100008 1C250906
1M500001 1M648029

Find your year/make/model and check the last 8 digits of the VIN. If your numbers fall in the range for your year, you need to have the recall performed.

And its a hazard switch recall.

The clicking sound from the dash is NOT, I repeat NOT the same issue as the Recall on the Hazard Switch.

I had the Hazard Switch recall done two weeks ago. I still have the clicking sounds coming from my dash.

All that is required, is to take out the multifunction switch, open it up and clean the contacts with some contact cleaner, and apply a little di-electric grease.

There is a thread for this already, although I can't recall which section it is in.

Once again, the clicking sound IS NOT the same as the hazard switch, in fact AFTER having the hazard switch recall done, you can still get the clicking.

I will be taking apart the multiswitch next weekend in my 2001 Grand AM SE1.

Yeah the hazard switch isn't the problem. It's the multifunction switch.

I called this morning not a recall for 02, Where can I locate that multifunction switch maybe somebody got a pic of the switch. If cleaning the contact fix the problem that's better than 140 Cnd for the part only. Is it easy to get at that switch??

The multi-function switch is your wiper stalk and turn signal stalk located in the steering column. They are connected inside.

MacDonald Pontiac replaced that under warranty back in November because it was doing the same thing you describe.

Would anyone happen to have photos of the part and exactly what to clean? Perhaps there are photos of the steering column being taken apart?

I will be brave and take my camera with me when I open mine up if none are around for reference.

The ramdom clicking has to do with the signal switch lever.
What exactly is the recall then?
