ive got a lighting audio BOLT .5 farad cap if your interested...
its got the clear top on it BUT doesnt have the voltage display. i bought the posts and clear plexi cover to moddify it to also use it as a distrobution block.... BUT my friend gave me a distrobution block so i never cut thru the plexiglass.
20bucks takes it shiped.... i do take paypal as well. i only had it in my friends grand am for about 3months before she desided she couldnt afford her system anymore.LOL

FYI- Dimming...... The cap might not be the total solution:
I have 3,175 watts and 2 1.0 farad caps on a 2003... I still have a slight dim on some deep bass notes at higher volumes...
2 amps, 2 10's, all fosgate punch internal speakers....
Good luck I'm going for a 160 alternator amd optima red or yellow top....
Keep us posted about your out come...(interested in the results)

ya dimming just depends on what your pushen and your stock electrical system...
typicaly if you upgrade the BIG 3 wires youll have less dimming. ground wires from engine block, frame, firewall and if you can upgrade the power wire off the alternator.
also swapen out the stock battery for a deepcycle optima. i had alot less dimming with just swaping out the stock batery with a yellow top D34/78
im pushen 2500watts rms from my Orion 2500D to my RE XXX 18inch sub :D
and it still dims preaty hard BUT what do you expect.LOL dimming vehicle JUMPEN and PUMPEN HARD.LOL
my next upgrade will be the alternator to about a 200amp alt. but this is on my fulllsize chevy extended cab...

caps do nothing. dont waste your money. save up and buy a yellow top.
this is coming from someone who had well over 3200 watts rms. 2 yellows and a red top under the hood. i threw in (3) 1.0f caps when i had one yellow and one red and nothing changed. added another yellow top and everything was straight.

in my friends f150, a 1 farad cap stopped the dimming from all the lights, and since my system is pretty weak, i though it would take care of it

dam if you got dimming with only 400watts youve got some problems!!!!!!
what size power wire you usen for the amp kit? at least 8gauge i hope...
and how old is your batery? its gotta be going bad!!!!
im not tryin to make much money just tryen to help ya out.... if your dimming bad with 400watts thiers a problem with something! like maybe your alt is almost dead or something! maybe your ground wire is coroded bad and broken inside the wire. or visversa with the power wire and alt wire....

dimmin still happens, i think you guys are blind or somthing... my amp is 1000w, but im not a tard and gonna say thas what im pushin, cause it aint... but anyways, the whole reason for a cap is for the low tones... a cap can dish out power faster than any battery... thas its TOTAL design... for fast discharges... upgradeing your battery and alternator is a good start, but a cap will help for faster more accurate hits... size of your power wire is a great factor as well... but .5F is like lickin a 9V... taint crap... at least a 1F... hell, spend 650 and get stingers pimp 35F... thing was damnn sexy... stopped the dimming and added me .3db... company let me "borrow" it for our spl contest...

battery and alt. are fine as far as i know, batt. might be getting a lil old but not too old yet. I do plan to get a yellow top. My volts are fine (around 14 constantly while car is on) Just when deep bass hits reall hard they go down maybe .5 volts, and lights dim a little bit.

o just 0.5volts.... i wouldnt even worry about that.
but upgrading your ground wires should help that out totaly id say.
at night when im rollen with headlights/underbody kit/ HEATER on full blast. and the system pumpen with some rap almost totaly full volume 0/33 its always on about 24-28 for max with best sound! and well my dimming is hardcore.LOL it will bump down to like 12volts.LOL
i know its hell on that alternator im just shocked its still worken.LOL the dimming doesnt bother me to much at all.
and well with the dude saying a cap gave him 0.3db more i call BS
for serious dimming problems a high power alt and more batteries doesnt just help it typicaly will fix it!
ya gotta look at caps this way..... they are charged up when your turn the system on BUT everytime a hard note hits POOF your cap is drained at first note........ no more power UNTIL it charges up again... and it can only charge up what the alternator is pushen out.... and when the cap is trying to charge i see it as power its starving your amplifier.......
for rock music just daily drivin for little dimming caps would help enough
but for SPL comp.... no way in hell sorry dude.... you ever seen a heavy EXTREME SPL comp vehicle with caps being used? ;) NOPE ive seen about a dozen batteries and even a alt or dual alts setup under the hood.
i listen to a mix of rap and alternative music..... alternative music doesnt give me much dimming at all. and well no one competes rock.LOL always rap because its computer generated HARD BASS NOTES ;)

Mine dimmed all the time, before and after a 1 farad cap was installed. I put a new battery in and all was well, no more dimming.

only way i would even belive that if it was done at the same time jst by ading the cap with the mic in the same spot.... that difference coulda easily been created by having beter weater or the mic positioned alittle different.
but i know alot of friends that would say no way and its always hurt thier SPL score.

do you work for an install company?
addiction2bass
02-20-2005, 03:59 PM
no i instal all my own stereo systems and friends systems since im the (almost) do everything guy.LOL when it comes to puting things together, figuring out problems and geting everything just right. ;)
i dont wanna work anywhere instaling because they try and rush you thru the instal! if i do a instal for someone else i want to be proud of it and be able to stand behind my work!
one day ill have my dads shop setup with my own area to instal systems and charge people but now im worken on my truck to much.LOL and still got alot to do! like as soon as i get a bucket seat for the rear then ill build a nice looken ported box for my 18. ;) mine now was just a quick box looks kinda crapy but the output and SQ makes up for it. :D

a cap does give you more db if you got a high end system that drains the battery a lot. I got a cap thats got a dent in it, and no label. ill give it to you for 10$ plus shipping. rockford fosgate. I think its a 1 farad. I use it and it works great. no dimming or anything.
