Hey guys,

When I bought my 2001 SE last March, it came with only one keyless entry remote. When i called the local dealerships in Windsor, Ont, I was quoted $85.99 + $20.00 for the programming.

Last Sunday I noticed many sellers with cheap keyless entry remotes. Just search for grand am in the ebay motors section, and you will find about 10 dealers at any given time.

I found one for my car, matched the part number to my current remote, and recieved my new remote today!

The remote was only $9.99, with $2.50 shipping.

My dealership once again quoted me $20 to program my new keyless entry remote with the old keyless entry remote. Tomorrow morning I will have the programming done. :)

Basically, $35 total to get a brand new keyless entry remote from ebay, and programming at your local dealership. Pretty good deal considering the $100+ I was originally quoted!

There are some DIY guides to programming key fobs on the boards, might not even have to pay that $20, do a search for programming remotes/fobs and you might try thoes to save yourself some cash.

isn't programming just holding down lock and unlock till the car beeps?
with the key in the ignition or something"?

Confirmed: The 2001 Grand AM DOES need Tech2 to program new remotes.

Dealership did it for free :)
