Hey...has anyone that lives in the metro detroit area seen a silver alero driving around with a big intercooler in the front of it?

I drove past it on the freeway...I didnt reconize it at first because it didnt have the front bumper on the car, but it had a nice big intercooler in the front with tubing wrapping around into the engine compartment. The guy seen me looking at the car and he just took off...I didnt have a chance in my GT. maybe it is something GM is doing?

just wondering what it is!!!

I know it is not from GM. They would never cruise with a boost setup where the bumper is off for an intercooler.

I think some of that may be stemming from the fact that we (us 3.4'ers) can't do a neato turbo setup with an IC

ummm yeah, you could say that...

My roommates and I did ALL of the fabrication, cutting, welding, bracketry design, header design, IC tubing, you name it, we did it. Everything is pretty much stainless steel or billet aluminum. My roommates are all pretty sharp guys except for this one named Thom, he is kinda of a tool at times, but i let him help me out, I gave him remedial tasks like cutting tubing at certain marks and routing wires and stuff....like i was saying....this is a very trick setup, here's what I am running:

-T3 Super 60 Turbo w/ Integral wastegate (7-8 lbs boost).
-Spearco Intercooler with billet aluminum brackets (700 cfm)
-2.5" Polished stainless IC tubing
-Eagle Talon BOV
-Stainless steel headers (1.5" primary into a 2" Y pipe, with merge collectors)....Ceramic Coated
-CNC cut "D" shaped header flanges matched to gasket
-R/T high flow Cat
-2.5" down pipe out of the turbo
-Borla dual exhaust
-Trailblazer fuel injectors (34 lb/hr)
-Battery relocated to trunk in Box with a quick disconnect plug
-MSD Ignition
-Blue Taylor wires
-Ported Upper and Lower Intake manifold and T/b
-K&N filter
-Stainless T-bolt clamps for the IC tubing
-Blue Silicone hose couplers
-"Polished" upper Intake (with 3400 lettering removed) and front valve cover to match mirror shine of IC tubing
-Electronic Boost guage (Autometer Phantom series...)
-Pyrometer guage for exhaust gas (bung welded into header at cylinder #5)
-Oil pressure guage
-Lots of heat shielding wrap

I think Ecap forgot to say one foot mandrel bent. the price is almost double compared to what i paid for my U-bends when you look at 2.5" vs. 3". i went and checked myself and its $14.40 for a 1 ft straight section of 3" tubing.

ok guys-

here's some pics, i decided to change some stuff around this week to try to get a better air intake system, but this is how it looks.....i have got the car half tuned, still need to do some more tweaking, i think i am gonna run 10-12 lbs of boost instead of 7-8, but we'll see...dyno numbers next week maybe! the msd box is mounted above the fuse box, it isn't in all of the pics, because it broke and MSD is fixing it....enjoy!

I'm getting about 3 degrees of advance with a 2.5" pulley
and only running about 8.5-9 lbs of boost up here.
no computer tune yet just stock stuff. no knock retard but it allready cuts timing way back.

edit: found out the computer is cutting my timing to save the tranny.

hey thanks, i am glad you guys like it. I would say I spent about 4 grand, tuning included. And that is with me and my roommates doing all of the work. We have got some pretty trick stuff on this car. I don't think there are many GA's/Alero's rolling around with stainless steel headers with "D" shaped flanges....Personally, i don't even think if other company's came out with a kit it would be as nice as this one, but you never know. And I thought about retailing a kit myself, but it is just way too much work to get everything outsourced and for me to even turn a profit, i would be selling it for way more than people on this board would want to pay for. I guess each of us has to find our own unique way to get more hp, and this is how i am getting mine:)

Aleromi
12-03-2002, 09:23 PM
Ic cost to make the turbo kit will be to high to make any money on it....

But if u have all the molds and plans for the turbo maybe a bigger
company that deals in 3400 parts will make it for us and u get
$$$$$$$$$$$$ for royalties ....

Or u r just going to keep it for ur self.....:p

Well anyway it Sweet and if i had 4 grand extra i would be right there to get 1 .....

hey thanks....looks sweeter in person, don't ya think? we did figure out why it was running so much boost (13+ lbs), my heat shield for the turbo was blocking the wastegate outlet hole....whoops, my fault there...still haven't cracked the dyno issue yet.
