View Full Version : Got NOS, now what?

Okay, I just bought a nitrous kit (setup for 75 shot) from Richie (AleroME) and I have it sitting next to me in my room. What I want to know is if there's anything I should do to prepare for it. I am getting the NGK TR6's like everybody says so that won't be an issue.
My car has about 50k on it though. I have never changed the plugs, wires, fuel filter, fuel injectors, etc... Should I change any of these BEFORE the install?
Also, can anybody point me to a page with good installation instructions and pics?

I would look into a remote bottle opener and a bottle warmer

both of those are on the list for the future...
Does anybody happen to have maybe a pic or two of the install, or maybe a diagram. I doubt installation will be hard, but it didn't come with instructions so I'm just looking for anything to guide me through it. I think somebody (pretty sure it was NeonGA) posted a brief rundown on the old boards. That was for the ZEX system though.

Who makes the kit??
Worked a very small bit with gtguy's NOS kit. Adam Thomas has a good shot of his TB with a good spot to stick the microswitch (at least I think it was him). Other than that it's pretty simple.

well actually... I do have couple of questions for anybody who want to answer. Mostly what I would like is a pic or two.
Actually, scratch that, I'm gonna snap some pics of the kit and label each thing and post em up and maybe somebody would be nice enough to answer the blanks in my head...

Is any one here familiar with botlfeds setup? I purchased his and have some questions but he doesnt seem to want to answer any of my pms. I was hoping some one on here could?? It is similar to dr kyles setup except mine came with the airbox lid with the nos lines running into it. Just have a few questions if anyone could help let me know, or if there is anyone in the central texas area who could help me with the install holler at me. Thanks

You mean the wooden board stand with blue vinyl cover... hehe it was fully covered in blue vinyl.. but then i bought some white vinyl dye and i had to try it out before i used it on my car.. so i had use the bottom of the stand if ya wondering where it went. hehehehehe
I'd figure to ship it without the stand.. but then i said what am i going to do with it? So i just lefted it in.

no, I meant the throttle switch that is on the bracket. But I am glad you included that bracket that you mentioned, I didn't want to have to line the brackets up myself (that'd take forever with me) :D

UPDATE: :D
Everything is installed working. All switched have been wired up and the bottle is filled. Solenoids click and the purge definitely works :D. I want to put in my TR6's before I test it out though. (unless this isn't necessary for a 75 shot?) Thanks to AleroME for the kit!
Special thanks to gtguy for the awesome help. I could not have installed this without your advice. Heck, it was easy with your help!

do you guys think I'd be okay if I did a test run with my stock plugs? or should I wait til I put in the TR6's? I don't mind waiting, but if I can do it now, you better believe I'm hittin "the red button" on my way home from school!
spray that sucker!!!!!
Brandon was running a 125 shot

Oh the stockers are platinum tipped I think.. so if your spray; nitrous will melt the tips. Dunno if a split second if it will melt em.. but I know they won't hold up in the long run. Anyways you coulda ran AC Delco Rapidfire plugs, too.

I feel like I've got the devil (pace) on one shoulder and the angel (richie) on the other right now.
Angel: You don't want to break anything. It'll only be a couple of days til you have your plugs in.
Devil: Just do it! You know you want to! The button is right there!!
Ahh! what to do?!?!?! To spray or not to spray...

mine is sort of ghetto rigged right now. I am going to try a different method later this week. I'll let you know if I get a good spot for it.

sep2000, Brandon was running the 125...yep it was a big one....but we run nearly the same 1/4 mile time and I'm only at a 75 shot....so...take it for what its worth....
You both better use interceptors though!! HUGE difference!!

im probably going to be spraying by the time summer gets here and im slowly learning about this stuff and im a newbie when it comes to this. But what is an interceptor? can you tell me what that is. Also what would account for you guys running nearly the same 1/4th but yet hes running a 50 shot higher than you? I think i might just round mine off at a healthy 100 shot then when i get mine. I appreciate the help.

Hey Ecap, I'm not sure what type of jets I have here,I think NOS goes by the diameter of the jet to determine horsepower. Correct me if I'm wrong because I dont know. I want to go with a smaller shot(75) but i dont know what type of jets to get, can you give me a link or part number. Thanks for your help. Ive looked on the NOS website but cant find these.:(
I was running a wet kit...he was running a dry kit....I think that it is hard to compare hp shots of wet vs. dry....Very different systems and the perform differently as well. You can get new jetting at a local speed shot...or call Jegs or summit. I'm sure you can order then straight from there. I would just run what Brandon was running. He srayed the hell out of his engine with that 125 for a few years and never had any problems....I'd stick with it.
A Transmission interceptor boosts the line pressure of your tranny. Before I got mine, my car would blow right past the shift points and bounce off the rev limiter...with the Interceptor you get clean crisp shifts....HARD shifts....IMO, it probably dropped .5 off my 1/4 time w/ N2O....Its a requirement to have when running N20...

Well, I still haven't put in my TR6's. NO time! So I'll be putting those in this weekend (if I have time). I remember somebody saying to gap them at .033 or something close to that? That seems pretty close, isn't stock like .060? What would be a good gap for a 75 shot? I still want everyday driveablility to be minimally affected.
.030 to .035 is good for a 75 shot....I demodded my ride 2 months ago....its now totally stock...but I still have the TR-6 with a .033 gap...(I've been lazy:p ) No drivability difference except for the fact that the car takes a while for the engine to get warm....Thanks for the reminder....I better change those out!!

Okay, so I STILL didn't get a chance to put in the new plugs. So for now, is it SAFE for me to run the 75 shot on STOCK PLUGS?
In my opinion it is ok....especially if its a dry kit.

you think so? Forgive me if I'm sounding skeptical, but I am! Heh After all, it's my daily driver too. Has anybody else run juice on stockers? I almost did it tonight, but I just wanted some reassurance  I am lame like that, heh. I just wanna feel it, maybe a 5-10 second burst.
Unless somebody tells me otherwise, I'm spraying tomorrow night at the track!
Brandon Botlfed did...maybe it was sexysteve......can't recall. One of them guys kept stock plugs in.....

that settles it! I'm spraying tonight! Thanks guys
Jay, I'm sure you understand, but I just needed to hear it from more than one person. :)
WHATEVER MAN!!!! my 1/4 time should speak for my N2O mastery!!!
