View Full Version : GT '04 lack of power ?

this is my first post. I used a lot of the info in here but now I have a specific question.

Back in August 2004 in bought a grand am GT /SCT demo with 10000 Km on it.
At the first road test I wasn't too impress with the power (my car before was a '97 grand prix GTP 245HP !) but I figure that I would save on gas so it was fine.

But now I feel like something is wrong with the power....

Let's say I am at a stop sign and I step the gas pedal to the floor, the wheels won't even make a single hiss noise (the ETS is disabled). Sometime when I step to the gas while turning a corner, I may ear a small hiss from the tires but that's it. It's like it doesn't have enough torque to make the wheel drag

So I am wondering if this is normal on a 100% stock car. Car is a 2 doors with 16" mags. It has now about 20000Km

What's your opinions about this issue ?

I can chirp them from a stop sometimes, and sometimes in a turn, but not always, the car doesn't have that much power.

245HP in a 97 GTGTP, I thought they were much lower, what did you have done?

well, thanks for the answers. I am really deceived as I was thinking the car had a trouble that I could have fixed under warranty....
My 97 was a grand prix. The GTP version had a supercharger so instead of throwing 200HP with the 3.8l it was having 245HP stock...! So much power for a stock car...

There might be something wrong with it. Even I can squeal from a stop sign, and I have the Ecotec which is rated 35hp less.

Either that or you're not trying hard enough.

The GAGT is no rocket, but you should at least be able to chirp the wheels at a stopsign =\
