Has anyone actually installed one of these? I found an electronic one that some of the GP guys are using. I was thinking that it might be a nice piece for us as well. Granted the gains won't be GREAT, but the sound will be. I'm interested in what everyone thinks.

I AM getting a cutout next week or the week after...Waiting for it to ship. I bought it from quick time performance. The guy said he has never had it put on a GA, but I will give it a shot... I will keep you updated on sound and pics.

I finally got the cut out and flowtech today. I'll have them installed hopefully by the end of the week. I'm not sure when I'll make it to the track again with school starting up, but maybe I can get the car autotapped to see the estimated HP numbers with this open/closed, etc...:boogie:

Finally got my exhaust cutout installed, but don't have any pics yet. Sounds great (nice deep rumble). I am only running it on stock mufflers, with the resonator still intact, and barely no engine work (just a S&B airfilter+ 180 tstat). My brother has a cutout on a 1998 Grand Prix GTP w/out a resonator and with aftermarket mufflers, engine work... (Sounds even better...). The install was not that tough. Just run wires for switch, tap into a power source that shuts off when the car shuts off, mount the switch, and weld on the cutoff (went to someone for that). The only tough part was mounting the Flowtech to the Qtec because Flowtech is from a factory premade and the Qtec is hand made. There is a slight difference in the two, but workable. I will get some pics soon, but anyone who wants to hear/see it... if you live local (near Albany, NY) let me know when/where/if you want to meet. Here is the website for the cutout where I got it from. If anyone is interested, I will see if a group discount can be offered to us  ... Thanx

So you have the Muffler on the cutout? What do you notice with your seat'o'the pants dyno?

Sounds cool... sure would increase the quarter speeds if you opened it up 3/4 down the track!

I don't think it matters what kind of muffler you have. The cut out is installed before the muffler therefore when the cutout is open exhaust never reaches the muffler.

I posted this as a new thread to see what kind of response there was when the new thread was up. Sometimes people will open a thread, see there's nothing going on, then not read it again. I figured mine might spark something new, but I guess not because my started thread was moved into here. Oh well :)

Anywho... the cutout sounds EXCELLENT. It seriously sounds like a V8 powerplant is in there. I love it. It's nice to roll up to your unsuspecting prey at a light, rev my stock sounding exhaust.. have him look over and laugh; then before the light turns, flip open the QTEC, rev that sucker, see his googly eyes wide open, then smoke him

On my ass dyno, I DO feel some power gained. I opened up the intake by means of the cone filter, so now my exhaust will flow freely. This cutout will really make headers shine and other major engine work.

By "on my stock mufflers" I meant that I still have the entire exhaust STOCK. The QTEC door will open and exhaust will look for the place to escape that has the least backpressure, thus out that door. Because your mufflers aren't cut off from exhaust running into them... exhaust will STILL get in there. MOST of it though will run out that door.
My brother has aftermarket mufflers and this cutout is even louder on his GTP because exhaust still goes through those mufflers and makes some of the usual sound on that end.

*Here is a link of its installation by a member of ClubGP: http://www.subatomicdesign.com/gtp/qtec/qtec.htm

Mine is mounted on that same pipe (ours is on the other side of the car though). This seems to be the best spot to accommodate ground clearance (especially on a lowered GA).

I am having a hard time understanding this. Can someone please explain this to me and what should it do? Thanks

Your stock mufflers are restrictive. They do cause backpressure and SOME backpressure is excellent for a car. Too much BP though can and will hurt your performance. That is a reason why this opens the exhaust after the cat. and after a couple bends. It basically just cuts out that extra restrictiveness of your stock mufflers.
Correct me if I'm wrong! I'm quite new to this, but I'm learning as I go :)

I'm not sure how much these will help the performance of the N/A GA's, but I'm sure that the supercharged ones will benefit even more.

I did a search on the Club Grand Prix message forum and came up with a lot of valuable information. Here is the link from the search. Now this GP doesn't sound all that smooth because it has a cam and other work done that gives it that rough idle: http://www.clubgp.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6404673&FORUM_ID=1&CAT_ID=1&Topic_Title=New+Toy%21++QTEC+Motorize+Cutout%2E+%2 8Updated%29&Forum_Title=ClubGP+%2D+General

After reading this, it was enough to make me want one! Performance gain or not. For less than $200 installed, why the hell not? It's like chopping off your mufflers, then being able to have them reinstalled with the flick of a switch ;)

If you look under the topic Made GT Custom Grills/Electronic Cutout under Appearance modifications, I have a pic of where I mounted my cutout. It is behind the rear driver side wheel. I also had my resonator removed...IT SOUNDS GREAT!!!

Any ques. let me know...
