Does anyone have advice on when to recharge the a/c (R134A)? Ive ran the ac for 5 summers. It seems to be less cool, but definitly working. I go to valvoline for oil changes sometimes and they have an a/c service. I was contemplating it.

Don't pay someone to do it, recharge it your-self. Unless you are talking about a complete clean out and re - do. A can costs about $10 a your local auto store so try it your self first and see if that fixes your cooling problems.

I'd say get a cheap-o aftermarket shop to do it, man. The only proper way to recharge your a/c to like new is a complete evacuation of the system, pulling vacuum for 10 minutes and charging it to spec. If they have something like an ACR, it should take about 15 - 20 minutes.
