An evangelical Christian group plans to roll out a TV ad campaign arguing that gas-guzzlers are contrary to Christian moral teachings about protecting people and the earth. The tagline for the ads: "What Would Jesus Drive?" the Wall Street Journal reports.
One of the group's leaders, the Rev. Jim Ball, said, "We hope that when Christians go to purchase their next vehicle, they will ask: 'What would Jesus have me drive?'... We think the answer would be he would have you drive the most fuel-efficient vehicle that truly meets your needs."
The group also plans to meet in the Detroit area with officials from Ford, GM and the United Auto Workers union. And it will release an open letter to U.S. auto makers signed by more than 30 senior U.S. religious leaders, including the U.S. heads of the Lutheran, Presbyterian and Greek Orthodox churches and of the institutions representing reform and conservative Judaism, which reads in part: "Because automobiles are having such an extraordinary global impact, choices about what cars to build raise fundamental moral issues...Automobile manufacturing now requires thinking about values, not just vehicles."
Just thought this was rather amusing....

Gotta love Democrats :D
Edit: At first I figured this was a Democratic campaign, talking about meeting with unions, and Jewish leaders, and making efficient cars - taking away from the oil industry - which all seem very Democratic to me... But looking at this again, and watching a short segment on World News Tonight - I must say it sounds Republican now - the fact that its being led by "Conservative" Christians... Oh well... This is really off the topic of how effective this campaign will be - but I saw the commercial, and I must say it is the stupidist thing I have ever seen, although it would be nice if it were to kill the SUV market... But then, I guess that would do the joke of what's left from the muscle car market... Oh well - we just can't win... We should hurry up and take over Iraq so we can get gas for .60$ a gallon again :D

You know what the funny thing is, Cows are a major contributor to the debatable "greenhouse gasses"... the expell a HUGE amount of methane every day... I guess cows are devil animals and against Christian teachings...
"Because cows are having such an extraordinary global impact, choices about what cows to build(?) raise fundamental moral issues...Farming now requires thinking about values, not just vehicles." hmm, not as effective of a statement...

that is funny, but when I went to kwait in late 2000 and ealry 2001 gas there was .30 a gal. ain't that some crap, and they don't have to worry about emmisions or anything, plus importing cars is no big deal. The only problem I saw over there was the fact that drinking = death. but you can't have it all right?

I guess driving something with a v8 would be evil and something with a 2 cylender would be good according to these people. What a total waste of time. Yeah id like to see the meeting if these people meet with the big 3! How do people even think of this stuff? Must not have anything better to do.

Same here man, same here!
Lets think about it, God helped man invent the things we have in this world today. He blessed people with the knowledge, integrity and ambition to use it for good. So how can you say God helped man invent the cars, and now we're damaging God's beautiful earth. He helped invent it!
I like how people become vegetarians, and say meat is bad, and how it is animal brutality for killing the animals and a savage way to provide for ourselves. Hmm...lets think, God created animals so we could eat. Jesus made enough food for 3,000 to eat ( i cant' remember what passage or chatper that is)
It just cracks me up.
Cars are like, the one of the zillion things ruining our earth. Nuclear plants, Coal companies, Gases. And lets not forget Styrofoam!! Probably 1 in every 10 people know that ripping stryofoam releases CFC's into the air, causing further damage in the ozone layer, increasing global warming every year by 1-2%. So, what are we supposed to do, stop ripping cups? The minute you throw it away, it'll get crunched by something and it'll release the CFC's again.
Point of my post: I don't feel like I should try and protect the earth I won't be living on the rest of my life. God made the earth the way he wanted. He techincally created all. So we are basically cursing God's creation by not driving cars because it damages the earth? Uh...think again. Christians are here to witness to people and spread the Word of the Holy Bible. Not save the earth, not take God's authority and responsibility into their own hands.
And what about all the corrupt, sick, pedophile catholic Priests? Wonderful job their doing. They live their life as a person for God, yet they can do that? I think this WWJD is just a publicity stunt, and a money stunt at that. They're gonna go around, scam all the churchs by getting their money for support and finances, then run out the back door.

Maybe it is our job on this earth to invent more efficent vehicles.
Less time at the pump and more horsepower sounds good to me

I'm sorry but fuel efficiency and more horsepower don't go together really.
Honda's gas/electric hybrid the "Evo" has 40-50 mpg, but 80 horsepower. Thats jusst one of the few hybrids. But still. If we're getting fuel efficiency, we're not getting horsepower, thats for sure.

You gusy should head off to the United Nations website or even the library of congress and read up on the studies done by the UN that prove environmental organizations wrong.
Some very smart PHDs at the UN have valid arguments for everything we are told about our so called "dying environment".
Actually, for those of you who get Maxim Magazine they had a good article in last months (or was it two months ago) issue called Green Inc.
Basically, the more scared we are of killing the environment the more grants and $$$$ organizations like Greenpeace can make. Sure, they are all "save the world" non profits -- but then why did they have over 1Billion in earnings last year alone? Non profit my ass.......

I knew this was all a political and financial scam. Heck, if catholic pastors can be pedophiles, I guess christian evangelists can con money out of innocent people, and the government can continue to hide the truth from its law-abiding, tax-paying citizens. Its a shame. :nono:

Activists are a bunch of idiots... Their heads are filled with a bunch of nonsense that is totally irrational and not very well thought out. A lot of this crap is just a scam or something they believe in and feel that they have to force it upon everyone else to think the same way. They've just got too much sand in their vaginas.. I am refraining from this post at this time. Though, I may go on a big long rant within the next day or two.. haha

You know how freon was baned becuse suposedly it put a hole in the ozone layer. Well Freon happens to be heavier than air so you could litteraly pour it out of a cup. Now how does something heavier than air float up into the wild blue yonder. Well it just so happens that DuPont's patent on freon (or who ever had it) was almost expired. Coincidince?
By the way would you all agree that our cars are much more efficent than the gas guzzling sports cars of the 60's and 70's. We get better gas milage and in some cases could beat them in a quarter mile.

Actually, I watched HotRod tv this week and they had a thing on the "crusher" camero. before they droped a huge V8 in it for their past project on this car it passed emissions with flying colors with the stock engine in it with no emissions controll devices.
Also, for the person who said power and gas milage dont go together. if you look at the LS1 or LS2 engines both get better gasmilage than any other V8 of the past 60's and 70's V8's did and get far better gas milage and horsepower.
and as far as WWJD? a huge friggin SUV because how else would he drive around 12 epostles and carry enough bread and wine to feed 40 people?  wtf
Ahhh yes the SUV.....
But he also can drive an Accord
GOD drives a Plymoth Fury. "the allmighty chased adam and eve out of Eden in a fury"
I forgot the other ones, but when this came out this talk show on the radio i listen to had a field day with this. They had quite a few to say the least.
