I don't know who else had this problem, but my 01 grand am has a crack in the center of the windshield. The crack starts out at the bottom and kind of archs along the path of the wiper blades per-say. I didn't hit anything. I read somewhere on the board that it is a stress fracture in the glass because some kind of plastic seater that is under the windshield got dislodged. So the windshield doesn't sit correctly and the stress of the car shifting from side to side during turns caused this crack. What I want to know is if I have any window guy come out and replace my windshield, will he know to reseat this plastic liner or whatever it is causing the problem? Do they all do this? or is he just going to plop in a new windshield where this will eventually happen a month or 2 down the road?

When I had my windshield replaced, the guys installing it squirted a thick paste around the entire frame. It was black and like liquid plastic. The windshield was set in it and the molding was replaced.

If there is a plastic seat in there, it's not moving.

so I shouldn't have a problem with my window cracking again? I was just thinking that this plastic seat that the window sits in is crucial? I'm not sure what it is or what it looks like... Hopefully they put in this paste your talking about... I was just curious as to the exact mechanics of putting in a windshield, or should I not wory about it?
