I'm really excited about all the recent "rumors" we've been hearing out of GM. Could they possibly have come to their senses? Let's hope!

while the supercharged 3.8-liter V-6 in the GTP will turn out 260 hp
Looks like the GTP is getting another bump in hp! Good job GM

Good, since it was already down graded to 250 from 280, at least we're working our way back up.
Oddly, the last GP design was debuted at autoshows as 300hp, back before the 97's were released. This last time around they only made a 280hp autoshow debute. Weird huh.

All I have to say about that is that the last one they released would have been a more realistic estimate that they really wanted to reach but the tranny reliability was a problem. 300 hp then was sort of an SC/T type thing, really neat but production was never even a consideration by GM. AT least now they have the body kits and they did have the supercharger sold for a while.

Not sure if we were talking about the same thing so I'll post a link to what I was talking about. The '95 debute of the GPX, the showcar had 300hp. The new GForce only debuted at 280. That's what I was talking about. :) Not production models.

I know that but the G-Force was designed as more of a possible vehicle they could make, and I don't think the GTX was. The GTX was more of a radical design that would have designs like it in the next gen GP (at the time) but with less flare and less power, more conservative-thus the GTX was never envisioned as the actual car. G-Force designs and 280x280 seemed much more feasible though, and they did it, but of course tranny reliability was questionable so they had to nix the plans for now.

I said I wasn't talking about production cars. I was talking about strictly showcars. We know they always change by production time. It's nice the GForce was closer to reality though. And it was GPX, not GTX.
I could be wrong, but not too much changed from the GPX to the production car. They just took away 60hp, no ram air hood and air box, and the fender wells didn't flare out as much.

Yeah, thats about all that changed. The GPX looks amazingly like what went into production, just not as beefy. :D
Beef, it's whats for dinner.
Ecotec stay in base models and a 270-280hp AWD will be avalible. Oh, you could just read this:

Don't worry about the GTX, SLP will offer packages that will add some of that missing hp back. around 10-30hp like they do with the current GP.
Crap, nearly forgot to add that a 290hp SLP GTP will do 0-60 in just over 6 ticks, makes you wish they would put a manual in there.
