I figure I'll post this now as I am on the last leg of my troubleshooting my rough idle. The last thing Im going to check is the TCC. After that I want to have someone who really knows about these quad4s look at the car 97 GAGT as my local ASE certified mechanic could not find the cause; and the GM dealer in my area didnt even want to look at the car (says its too old). If anyone knows of any good quad4 techicians near me (Long Island, NY), please let me know.

thanks

Tom

Do you have an EGR valve? It may be sticking open. Some quads have EGR's.

Is there another GM dealership close by? If there is, I'd go there.

97 is "too old?" :wtf

At my dealer we work on anything, any year, anything. How can 97 be to old? I would like to work on 97's not 80 sonething junk yard refugees. That is bunk.

I took the car to a Pontiac dealership 2 days ago. They called me today telling me that the timing chain poped while they working on it. They told me that the oil was old ??? I changed the oil 3 month ago!!! Now the car doesnt run at all. So I went down there to talk to the manager. They offered to fix the timing chain if I paid for the parts (600.00). Now Im at a loss. I was originally going to trade the car in to get a new one so I now I will either pay the 600 or try to sell the car for parts. If anyone wants it, let me know. Other than the above problem, the car looks pretty good.

Thanks for you help.

The timing chain doesn't cost $600. You're getting taken for a ride.

Well the dealer got back to me and said that the head may need to come off to be machined. Ive pretty much had it with this car. Its now on ebay for sale as a parts car. In case if anyone is interested, heres the link.
