My Pontiac Grand am having problems like jerking after going like 50 or 60. i notice it, when i let go of the gas and resume it jerks but still goes. When i was on a red light the car stoped on me. Turned it back on and started. Its been doing this about 3 months ago. Ive changed the fuel filter, spark plugs, air filter.

Does it actually jerk or feel more like a misfire?

Its like a misfire. It dosnt give me a Check engine light. More like a hesitation.

i had same problem when my fuel pump was going out. if you dont change the fuel filter often enuf this can be a big problem, ive changed my fuel pump twice now. try a fuel cleaner and change the fuel filter again when you do. good luck

How much testing equipment do you have access to? Check the fuel pressure at the rail, and check how much amps the fuel pump draws when it primes.

My 95 went through the same thing ( I believe). Could it be the transmission? Does it feel like a tranny problem? Like something's not catching right...

Also forgot to say that, When i tun on my car the car gives out.It cranks. I have to pump a little on the gas pedal to start. Its funny it does that only when warm. It starts in the mornings when cold. I was just wondering if that has to do with my problem i posted on top. Also if not. Whats the problem?

its the fuel pump, do like the guy said and have it checked out. they can run a pressure test to see if the fuel pump is pushing hard enuf or not at all. also with my 97 i have gotten in the habit of putting the key in and turning to acc. u should hear the fuel pump priming. when done which takes like 3 seconds at most i then turn the car over. from my experience with my 97 it sounds like fuel PUMP not filter. good luck. when mine got really bad it would shut the car off while i was driving on the highway, just a fyi to be ready for.

the fuel pump is in the fuel tank. the part is like 300 and i think the mechanic charges 2 hours labor to fix. try to do a fuel flush and then change the fiulter again, maybe you can get rid of what ever is clogging it up. u can go to any mechanic that u trust and they can run tests to see if it is your problem.good luck

2 hours?? Good lord. Is that what the labor guide calls for? It took me 25 minutes to drop the tank, install a new one, and be on the road in my '01.

...of course, that's because I got to practice 5 times over the course of 2 damn months. :nono:
