by ANY means would the drl kit affect the security program in a 2001 ga gt?? the other day my car woudln't start adn the dealer said that it was a problem in the security program and they reprogrammed it.. well, it did the same thing again last night, so i had it towed there again. now today i'm wandering if that program is in the bcm which all my wires are going into for the drl kit, and will they say "this is due to all these wires.... blah blah blah"??? also, my switch broke for the drl kit the other day, i was trying to move it and when i was unscrewing it, the lever got pushed in and now it won't switch, would that have anything to do with it??? thanks for any help. i am really worried right now.. thanks!

They can definitely blame it on that, but I highly doubt it's the cause, unless you shorted something during installation.

i have had it installed for like 5 months now..

is that where the program for the security is??

sounds like the program for the security is in the key seitch itself. I would assume they can void the warrenty but i have a feeling they wont. This does seem strange that you would have problems, i have heard of this b4 though. Do you have a remote start on you car by chance?

nope, no remote starter. just your drl kit..

I will clarify what i said earlier about seeing this b4. I install remote starts at work and i have seen this there, not with the kit. Usually the resistor system in the key cylinder itself fails, or slightly changes resistance causing a failier to start. That has been my experience, and it only happens rarely. I would see what they will do for you, the tech may have just not reproggramed it right. Hey Iceman, could you fire those bcm schems at me if you get a chance, i wanna verify the info and i dont have the copies here at work! Thanks guys

what it does is turn over, run for a second, then die. it sounds exactly like an auto-kill feature on alarms.. what would i do if they did tell me that they void the warranty because of the kit???

The first thing i would do is ask them to tell you exactly what the problem is, if they refuse then they have no probable cause to void the warrenty. I really think they will just redo what they did the other day. If they look under there and see the wires then tell them you will disconnect it but there is no way (unless you cut into the wrong wiring) that this would casue that problem. Tell them you want the key cylinder replaced, and just the bcm. They can claim it is your responsibility, but they have to meet the burden of proof, and unless you did something wrong they will have a hard time doing that, I promise.

Another plan of action is to talk to the tech, ask him what would cause this, and explain what you did. He may say that you are in the clear and that you can work something out with him. I have had great luck with our local dealer and i am sure that worst case scenario you can get them to work with you, but the car starting then shutting down sounds pcm, more so then bcm. Back me up on this one Iceman ???

Also try giving the car some heavy gas almost like an old carb system, sometimes they need to relearn the factory tach signal...

Try this also!

i tired the gas thing, didn't work. if they do look under there i will tell them i can dissconect it. but what if they do what you just said, replace the whole bcm? will they still do that if i have all that? god i hope so. alos, where is the pcm and what does that stand for..

and i don't htink i cut into any wiring because the kit and all my lights have been working perfect for 5 months until i broke the switch the other day. woudl that have anything to do with it? maybe it's sedning back some wierd signal, who knows. my lights still work fine w/ the switch broke, it got broke when it was in the normal auto-headlamps position. thanks alot mike for helping me..

Does the kit still function properly?

If so then everything should be okay!

yeha, i still ahve no drl's, high's + fogs, auto-headlamps. i just spoke to them and they are looking at it right now, i'm willing to bet that they are ganna say it's the same problem and just reprogram it again. i am ganna demand that they keep it there all day and test the car every hour or so.. just so i don't have to get it towed for the 3rd time in the past 2 days!!

I am really sorry for the problems you are experienceing, but we would not have made this thing if we thought that it would ever be a problem. The dealership can say what they want but i still see no possible way. As for pcm=powertrain control module. We will be happy to lend advice on the situation!

This same problem happened to me when I was on vacation in FL and NC. They had to replace the key switch for my car. After that, no problems.

And for the record, this was a good 6 months BEFORE we even made the DRL kit.

OK, i just got back from the dealer, still without my car though. they think they foudn what is wrong. they say there is a defective fuse terminal in the driver's side fuse panel that is draining the power from the computer or sumthing causing the security feature to malfunction.. i'm going to call them and tell them to check the key cylinder also, but they are pretty sure that's what wrong.. hopefully! i'll keep you guys posted..

ok, here's the final problem and they fixed it this time!!! yay!! :D ok here's what the work order form says:

CUSTOMER STATES THAT VHICLE STARTS AND DIES.
MULTIPLE BODY CODES SET.. LOSING POWER TO CLUSTER.
REPAIRED FUSE CONNECTION AT FUSE BLOCK FOR INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER.

that's it!! well, the cars running great now so that's all that matters, and they never once asked me about the drl kit!! :D
