Hey AmIGrand do you remember the multi-page topic (debate lol) on the old board on the issue of ported vs sealed boxes? I think it was you who was saying that a ported box could sound just as good, even better, than a sealed box for SQ. I totally agreed with you on that. I know this was a HUGE debate, and a lot of people disagreed, and i'm NOT trying to start it up again. I only mention it because I just picked up a LOT of new equipment, and I want to do a ported SQ box. I've done a LOT of installs over the past 10 years, but have NEVER had the opportunity to work on a system on a scale such as the one i'm building now, and was wondering if you could give me a hand, or at least some pointers, on getting the box design done. PM me or reply here if you're willing to lend a hand. Thanks, I really appreciate your help.

Damn Amigrand, I think that must have been nokia's BROTHER you were talking about... unless of course you ment his mom... she is kinda rank... a little like KFC too... after ya get past the legs and thighs all your left with is a greasy box....

but while we are talking about boxes:

You can make a ported box so it plays low... which is a big advantage over a sealed box.... plus it will get louder then a sealed box...

But with a ported box there is a major loss of accuracy... transient response is thrown into the wind....

If you are talking about SQ and you listen to rap and R&B then a ported box is EXACTLY what you want... But since SQ generally means you listen to rock, jazz ect. ect. the music is TECHNICAL and has alot of transients....

Not only that but rock ect. dosen't usually have a whole ton of low bass to it, so you arn't missing out on anything if your response dosen't go all that low...

If you are talking SQ then you should be talking sealed....

Well, I guess we really are back to the old days....

Once again we shall have to agree to disagree, I hope it can stop there. I still do not understand why people believe that "transient response" as you call it must deteriorate in a vented enclosure, because above the port frequency there is no loss of backpressure. Below the tuned freq - well, obviously. But an SQ box is gonna be tuned low anyway, so I'll give up accuracy below 25 or 30 Hz for that extra 3 db at 35 to 40 personally.

Anyway, nice to see everyone finding their way back!
