The questin I have is the black piece that is supposed to get cold air to my radiator is broken in a few places. (Bottoming out too much) What I was wondering is do I actually need it. You would think that without it more air would get to your radiator. Anyway like I said, do I really need it?

Unless you are having problems with overheating (doubtful) just take the whole thing off, or leave it alone altogether.

It has been like that for awhile so I dont think taking it off will do much difference.

take it off!! take it all off!!! lol I took mine off, and didnt notice anything.
Personally I'd replace it, it's there for a reason. Fortunately the Grand Am's have somewhat of a grill opening and don't require all thier cooling air from beneath the car but I've seen some cars overheat, shut down, not run right, throw codes all because of that one piece missing (usually a series of events)
