Hey guys,

I have a 1997 Grand Am GT with a 2.4 TwinCam. Can anyone tell me how I can check my fuel pressure? I have a fuel pressure gauge, but I can't find a schrader valve or anything on the fuel rail. As far as I can see, there's no way to test the fuel pressure at the fuel rail. Is it a bad idea to cut the primary line and install a T-fitting with a valve on it?

What have some of you other guys done to check your fuel pressure?

Thanks!

Ah the joys of testing fuel pressure on early GM 4 cyl motors. Don't cut the primary line as its plastic and will never, ever seal again once you've cut it.

There is actually an adaptor kit that sits in place of the fuel filter with a pressure tap. It has threaded holes on both ends with a GM schrader in the middle. Also available are several lengths of adapters with a raised bit to actually hold the plastic connection retainers. It goes for about $40 on a tool truck and is absolutely indisposable. That's really the only way to check fuel pressure on those motors.
