I need to change my oil on my 2002 Grand Am GT (3400 V6 engine) but am unable to find the oil filter. Usually I just take it to a garage but don't have that option right now. Where is the filter located? Do I need to remove anything to get access to it? Thanks in advance to whoever replies.

Underneath the car.
Remove the plastic splash guard, by taking off the 2-wing nuts.
& you will see it near the passenger side.

You can see it from the top, if you lean over the front.
It is on the front/bottom of the engine.

How the fock do you change your oil filter then? From the top of the engine? Dude, it's a simple procedure that will save you a lot of time and effort.

It should. Mine did until I decided to leave it off.

I bought the car when it had 32K on it, maybe it was removed by the previous owner or the dealership.

Chances are the place that changed the oil on it before you got it, forgot to put it back on. I know a few people at oil change places and they are sneaky mofo's when under your car.

Thats why I always change my own oil, those places could care less about your car. One former employee of a place where I used to go told my friend stories about not changing oil filters and such. F that

The only reason i like to change the oil in my vehicles is becuase it gives me the chance to inspect everything else, that and gettin ripped off, or they do something to jack up my sh!t.

for what? You don't really need it.

I took mine off, it serves no purpose

I'm sure it serves some purpose, just not a very good one, or one only a GM engineer understands.

It prevents crap from flying up and possibly damaging the oil filter.

Really, I can barely fit my hand up there, what the hell is gonna fly up that hole? I never had a problem with it off so I am gonna keep it off.

Yeah it's a small hole, but rocks and crap could fit up there... I guess? I dunno, that's just what I was told by a service tech a while ago.

Thats what i was thinking. I can barely fit my hand up in there and then its a PITA to get the filter out then get the new filter back up in there.
