View Full Version : Uneven Fuel Distribution in the 3400 V6 ?

I am in the process of retuning my engine VCM with an HP Tuners program. In the VCM there is a table for "Skew vs. Cylinder" which allows injectors to be adjusted individually. I am sure the fuel distribution is pretty good in the stock engine. Does anyone know if some cylinders run slightly lean or rich, especially at WOT, and especially with power adders on the engine?
Thanks...

There's been some speculation in the past the cylinder #6 (right front) runs a little leaner than the rest. Evidence of this is somewhat sketchy though. There's no way to tell for sure without putting a wideband O2 or EGT sensor in each individual exhaust port. You can always examine the spark plugs but that's imprecise too. Best bet is just to adjust fueling across the board so there's no detonation.

Also, if you are using V1.7, you can check use the 'cylinder balance' test. This checks the % efficiency of each cylinder. I think the Tech II has something like this too, but I'm not sure.

You can do a cylinder balance test, but you will not really get results back electronically. It simply skews each cyl down to 0 so you can time and listen to how each cylinder responds. I had noticed cyl #1 was not hitting quite as hard. As for skewing the 3400 cylinders, I have had no major issues. Before I replaced my injectors with some new flow matched (a bit over a month ago), I had skewed cylinders 2-6 to 98~. This was a simple temporary crutch. Here is an example of my current plugs:
