i dont know like i said, im sure no one would mind another body kit. but we would have to see a drawing or something first. especially if youre trying to get like 10 people for a group buy dealy. they cant just do it with that pic and guess what it looks like.

Wow that kit looks like ass. Let me give you some tips if you're really serious about doing this for whatever reason.

1) Like mentioned, no one is going to buy a kit without at least seeing some preliminary drawings or mock-ups.

2) Pre-buys: I hope you don't expect more than 2 people to even think about putting money down for a company no one has ever heard of for a product that isnt even made yet. Your best bet is to have the company produce the kit from the get-go after some design agreement and work from there...which is very unlikely to happen.

3) Pricing- if it's more than $600 you better damn well believe that people from the GA community will not buy it.

I applaud your idea, but have you taken any initiative to contact the company and see exactly what kind of time frame they're looking at, materials used, pricing, past projects and THEIR interest in making a kit for a domestic vehicle (and a Grand Am at that!)? If not, I'd take it upon yourself to do that and then come back with some definitive answers. There have been too many shams and "It's coming" products for years in this community and I'm just trying to save you and everyone else' time.

You can make your own widebody kit if you really want one. There are several places online that sells different sizes and shapes of universal fender flares and wheel arches. All you need is a fiberglass body kit that you can mold them too. Any good body shop that does custom work can do it. They'll stick the arches on with panel bond and mold them to the fenders, bumper, side skirts... whatever you want. You can get custom scoops put in too. It's all just a matter of time and money but you can have your own custom widebody.

Just an FYI though, most of the widebody kits sold for other cars still require replacing a lot of stock body panels and/or custom molding pieces, so the costs are pretty much the same for getting a widebody kit made, or just doing a custom one-off.

i have seen a kit like that on a grand am before . there use to be a guy on the "other site " that had a molded rear rocker scoop and fender flares . the car was also yellow and had a single hood scoop design on the hood . the only difference is his front and rear facia were ***design and he had a headlight conversion .

if you want photos of it look up YellowGA in "their" photopost section or member gallery .

Having a body kit like that on a GA is just stupid, you don't even have any sketches to see what it looks like, and even if there were, it would look horrible and you would be laughed at. Some things should just stay stock, because sometimes factory knows best.

That made my day. The day a bean-counting, almost bankrupt company "knows best" is the day my GA can fly.

Sik is right about the difficulty in getting a kit for this community. Even with the "perfect" design, unless it was priced very reasonably, it would not sell. You have to remember, this car is not even being made anymore.

I never saw a body kit for us under 600$ so i would think if its 1,000 it would still be in our price range. Wide body kits look awesome, but also i dont think ill ever get a body kit.

uhhhhhh.............. WHA?

oh, and btw, that company likes r34 lights just a lil WAY to much

ive been thinking of builing a sheet metal kit off of the original fenders on my car for some time now though...... instead i just keep staring at pictures and trying to think of what i want lol

its hard to design because i want something function, not just 100~lbs of added craptastic plastic lol

There a bunch of parts you need to switch over but you could put an alero front end on your grand am... if you really wanted to. Possibly a malibu front as well, but wouldn't look very good IMO.

I don't think an Alero or Malibu front would fit on a '91.

well, any car that shared your platform SHOULD work, but you might have to do some massaging to get it all to work together

Here's a list of cars that are the same platfrom as the 91 GA.... it'd take body work to make any body pieces fit, but you'd have the best luck with these.

o 1985-1987 Buick Somerset
o 1985-1987 Oldsmobile Calais
o 1985-1998 Pontiac Grand Am
o 1986-1998 Buick Skylark
o 1988-1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais
o 1992-1998 Oldsmobile Achieva

a wide body kit isnt practical at all. itll be WAY over $1000. they usually include:
-front bumper
-rear bumper
-fenders
-rockers
-rear fender flares

and all of that would be at least $1500 IF they could sell a lot of them. the fact that GAs are no longer made isnt here nor there...people can get them cheaper now, so modding is more likely. the fact is that theres not enough market for something like this.

Im thinking there will be a bigger demand now than ever before for anything aftermarket.
These cars are no longer made
Becoming very cheap
Younger people can now afford them
Young people are ussually ricetastic and want all the stuff the civics can get lol

uhhh, im 18 and im leading a group to get the photoshopped kit below into production for the 97-03 malibu's and 04-05 classics

http://img307.imageshack.us/img307/7408/malibuconceptwut9hy.th.jpg (http://img307.imageshack.us/my.php?image=malibuconceptwut9hy.jpg)

is that ricey? i dont think so... im also thinking of incorperating widened fenders into my car for wider rims and tires- thats functional, not r*ce

oh, and for my rims, im prolly gonna go with gram lights in a 17 or 18 inch format and an 8 inch width (or wider if i make the fenders), oh and btw, gram lights have that name for a reason....

yeah, im all about r*ce

I like the kit, not too flashy w/ all the flare and crap. Very simple and it flows w/ the lines.

El_Diablo

sorry, guess that came across more harshly than i meant... i tend to do that on the net a bit

just saying, some people have style... some have no sense of style at all, i know not everyones going to like what i like but im just saying, because i am part of the "F&F" generation as some have called it, doesn't mean i like that stuff

i like clean cars

IMO- most guys on here, i have noticed like more subdued kits rather than flashy ones, i just dont see that kit or a kit like that selling on here, however, something that better flows with the body lines and allows you to fit wider rubber i can see selling

the wide body market is very slim as it is, its not an easy thing to do, these kits just simply dont sell aswell because it costs more, is more time consuming to put on, most home-builders aren't willing to spend the extra cash or the extra time from what i have found

lemme ask you...do you think that these ricetastic boys feel that the cars they like ARENT clean? my point is, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. if you like wide body kits, then so be it. if you want tires that are wide, but a car that has no use for tires that wide, then so be it.

people can say what they want...but all fo you 18 year old kids are all just a bunch of Brian Spilner knock offs!!!

lol j/k
