Hello everyone. I am looking for an answer, no one seems to figure this one out. Could be simple could be difficult. My temperature gauge is not working on my gauge panel. The needle when the car first starts up goes all the way up then back and stays on 40. Sometimes it will work and give me the temperature, but majority of the time it does nothing. Also I turn the heat on high and I get barley any heat and my fuel economy is just no thtere. The service engine light comes on. It has been reset and then works then messes up again. I tried grounding out the lead to check a faulty Temperature sensor but it does not even move the gauge. Is there a relay or a fuse or something I do not know about??????? Someone please help me out. 2001 Grand Am GT, I love my car but this has every one puzzled

Un believable! I have the same car, same year, and SAME PROBLEM. Are these things like programed fail in certain areas??? :D

On my GA, I'm getting heat, but that's like after half an hour of driving. Also my fan keeps turning on.

Anyhow, that's the feedback I'm getting too; stuck thermo.

Does any one have a good DIY guide on how to change a Thermostat on a 2001 GA GT1?

Cheers!

It's not too much work. Plus, it's cheaper than sending it in to get worked on.
