FROM AUTONEWS.COM:

Nissan on Thursday offered the first official look at the redesigned 2004 Maxima sedan, set to go on sale next spring. The new Maxima shares the automaker's FF-L platform with the Altima sedan and Murano sport wagon, and will be built alongside the Altima at Nissan's plant in Smyrna, Tenn. The Maxima will be part of a blitz of new products the Japanese automaker will roll out at the Detroit auto show in early January. Other introductions will be the 2004 Nissan Quest minivan, a full-sized pickup truck and the 2004 Infiniti FX45 sport wagon.

I am a little dissapointed. It was nice that the Alty and the Max were on different platforms. I wonder what's under the hood? I'd assume a 3.5 but I heard rumors of a V8.

Already? Why so early The current max came out in 2000. So 4 years later, a redesign? Well, anyhow it looks good to me!

huh? I thought the current model was a redesign. It looks totally different from the last one, completely different. It's not like it was a update or refresh, I remember hearing on commercials "The all-new 2000 maxima."

let me add, it looks like they merged the altima's front end with the 350z backend. It should be a completly new design, not taking design themes from different models.

...look at the "all-new 2000 Maxima" the same way you would at the 95 and 96 Grand Am... they just freshened the front and rear fascia... and probably some other minor cosmetic things in the exterior and interior... car companies like to throw around terms like "all-new" and "brand new" ...probably for the 2004 they will call it "the completely redesigned 2004 Nissan Maxima" :)

I think its ugly. If it aint broke dont fix it. The current maxy looks good now but thats just plain ugly to me. Soon all nissans are gonna all look alike.

I don't like the front buckle of the grill. But i hear that is just used to cover the grill and won't be in the production.

*I do not take credit for these pics. I got this from from freshalloy.com*

This shot of the car really makes it look good. You get a better look of the rear end and I must say, it surprised me. Notice the four exhaust tips. I really like it now.

Another good shot of the car. It looks sporty here and that's without the spoiler. Very good look to me.

apparently, the car was being used for some filming. I'm guessing they were filming for commercials that would appear later next year. That would explain the police, equipment and vehicles there.

Nissan has royally messed up the front end of the Maxima... how can they make a nice car like the 350Z and then come out with an ugly Maxima and a new SUV (Murrano) that steals the "Nastiest Lookin SUV" award from the Aztek... :vomit:

The front grill is just awful.

The fact that they basically shat on the exterior might be forgiven if what's under the hood is nice.

2004? I have seen that on the road! I thought it was someone with audi that switched the badges around lol I went home and got online to look and could not find that body style on the website at all.

so is it for sale or did I just happen to see one of the prototypes?

ANyway I like it! the lights the style just about everything, but ya that chrome thing in the grill would have to go. It fits the lines of thecar, but seems to stand out.

The one I saw was dark blue so it flowed decently...
