SES Light

I took my car to the dealer because the Power Steering pump they put on was bad. In the mean time of having a bad pump my SES light came on. They looked it up to see what it was and it was Fuel tank perge valve and want 180 to fix it. How does that go bad and what the Hell is it? Is it easy to replace? has anyone had this problem? Thanks again..
