Has anyone tried replacing the Grand AM SE gauge cluster (engine temp, tach, speedo, fuel) with the one from the Grand AM GT? Has this been done? Can this be done? If not then why? I would really like to see speeds above 120...

its not going to do anything because your car has a limiter/governer near 110mph so your car wont be going much faster then that

unless he has/gets a DHP PCM that eliminates the govenor ;)

the cluster DISPLAYS that information, it doesnt determine it. as boost said, you have a governor/limiter on your car that prevents you from going over a certain speed. yes the dhp (or a powertuner) can get rid of the limiter and allow you to exceed that speed. why you would want to I dont know, because there isnt exactly and autobahn in the states and it would certainly take you awhile to exceed that speed. but to each their own.

Thanks for your response. I am aware of the rev limiter on my car. I hit it long ago. On the SE's it kicks in somewhere between 105-110 mph. No there is no Autobahn here but on the track I expect to go faster than that eventually. Personally I think it was dumb for GM to outfit two cars with virtually the same engine and give them different speedos.
From my understanding before, and from replies on this and other forums, all the speedo does is convert the electronic signal to a visible speed. This signal should be the same between the two cars. I guess the best test would just be to try it with a GT speedometer if the plugs match up.
I really just want to know if this will work or not.

And yes... a reprogrammed PCM (with the limiter removed) is in my list of very near future mods.

You need an autobahn to go fast? That's news to me. I've been doing it at the track for a long long time. It doesn't take that long to reach speeds in excess of over 120.
You almost had me believe you were an old man, then I looked at the profile...
...
GT Cluster SE cluster plug n play. The mileage is stored in the PCM and in the gauge cluster, so whatever mileage was on the gauge cluster from the car it was in, that is what you shall see. Everything else works just fine, speedo fine, rpm fine, dummy lights, as dumb as ever..... enjoy.

Do you go to church?
Are you scared of going "fast"? Or accelerating at a high rate of speed outside of the factory specifications?

I smell a lock and someone yelling search.... oh, it's me. Click the little green button, type in cluster swap, and boom.... read.
