Speedometer did something ... (more inside)

My fiance owns what I'm going to really start calling a POS ...

The speedometer reset while we were going down the road earlier today, and she said that her cruise doesn't work anymore ...

It is a '99, the engine has been rebuilt, and ... I dunno ...

Any ideas?

If it has ABS or traction control I would say to check the magnetic pick up sensors on the wheels. Since the speedo isn't working and neither is cruise control I suspect that they're both related because newer cars won't allow the cruise control to activate if it can't tell the traction condition of the wheels.
