I'm seriously considering buying an 03 GAGT. Carfax didn't give me the build date, but the first mile was recorded 3/19/03. Any idea if this is late enough that I won't have to deal with the LIM issue? Its got 33k miles and so far has been no leak.

It's pretty much a wait and see type of thing. it could hit you at any given time. mine didn't go out till this past winter, around 92 k.

Couldnt have said it better myself. Though mine made it to 123k. The "Grand Am Curse" as I call it.

The '03 falls under the "umbrella" of bad gaskets. Its pretty much just a wait and see type deal, but if it does go chances are you could wind up getting it covered by GM or eventually get reimbursed. Check out the threads on GM and the class action lawsuit against them on the gaskets that they knew were bad.

My 03' has had it twice but other than that the car has been 100% problem free....I have about 50K on her now.

I've said it before but its such a pain in the a** yet its the only thing I can complain about....its really too bad:(

My 99 had it replaced by the previous owner at 33k miles. It is being replace again now at 114k miles. But luckily, it should be replace by the new gasket that won't fail.

Personally, even though the GA has some mechanical issues, it is one bad as car in both looks and performance. With any car you gain in some respects, and lose in others.

I am hoping GM will eventually reimburse me for the LIM replacement.
