View Full Version : Question on my other car (99 sunfire)

I have a 99 sunfire and when i went out to start it I noticed that the blower was not working. I checked all the fuses, and relays and all seems okay. I did find out that If i wedge the relay under the hood closed the blower will work...only porblem is that if you forget to turn it off....it kills the batt. When that went, the a/c and rear defrost, and sunroof went. I am throwing a code on the computer, but only for a rear O2 sensor. Any help would be great.....

I haven't heard of the sunfires having the blower motor resistor issue like the GA's, but the service dept. at my local Pontiac dealer told me that GM is putting the similar setup in all the newer models. So it's possible that may be it. Are you shorting out terminals on the relay? If so, I would stop and just bite the bullit and get it fixed. Or at least diagnosed, then fix the problem yourself if possible. I wouldn't risk an engine bay fire.

The speed knob works okay....it is just that the relay under the hood is not closing when you turn on the blower...if you close it by hand it will work fine......

Try changing the relay. I have seen relays go bad before.
Not sure about the sunfires, but the relay just plugs in like a fuse doesn't it?

Also try checking all your grounds. You may have a bad ground.
i remember seeing a sticky or something at www.j-body.org and it sounded similiar to the GA's issue. if changing the relay doesnt work, id check around there if you already havent.

got a new relay, that was one of the first things that I changed. No luck...where would I check for the grounds?

ya, J-body.org has a sticky about the hvac blower issue i beleive. Its fairly common for the j's.
here you go bud. there are 3 stickies at the top there dealing with the HVAC.

The J-body's have the same problem. I had a z-24 before the GA and had the resistor go

There are three controls on the hvac system, fan speed, temp. and the mode selector. When you turn the mode selector to on, what closes the relay to make the blower work?
